This is a bit counterintuitive, but in the next 4-6 years, Apple will be in the best position for AI without even having to make any models. Why? let me explain: In the near future, AI innovation will plateau, and giant AI companies will scramble for 5% increases over small companies like mistral. Their leverage will disappear. Apple devices will be the platform for AI, and in the end, the platform always wins. Companies like Google will soon start paying billions to be the default AI model, since 70% of the world's money is owned by people with iPhones.

Great! In six years, Apple's AI will will be better than other AI systems. Until then, Apple's AI is so bad and Apple is treating AI so poorly that AI software engineers are leaving in droves. Hallelujah! Only a LiquidGlass fan could say that.

Nah. Google is in the power position here. Apple blew it.
I have more day-to-day experience with ChatGPT, but I have found Gemini pretty darn good. I envision it being kind of an interim step over a longer horizon. Apple could utilize the custom Gemini version we’ve been hearing about in the near-term, but could eventually evolve to a broader set of offerings and even potentially something beyond LLMs. Obviously, there will be a lot of nuance to that, but I guess we’ll see…
