Apple is losing me: that's why.

I can understand where Max is coming from, I see he's got himself into trouble too :rolleyes:

Anyway....

I switched from Apple because firstly I was fed up spending hundreds on faulty hardware, for instance the iphone 4 faulty home button a known issue, and my iPhone 5 had a faulty power button a known issue. I understand they have some defects but not ones made by Apple as opposed to a supplier, and on a device this expensive.
Secondly I hate iOS7, I had no real issues with 6, but I really tried to love 7 but I just couldn't, I hate it's overall looks, daft non descript buttons etc.

So I made the choice, and when you look at how much money you've spent on iOS apps it's a BIG choice, to switch. Well when Google launched the Nexus 5 I was in love haha, I haven't looked back, and will argue how great naked Android is on the device, it's not rooted or custom romed, and it's great.

I have Waze GPS which frankly puts TomTom and CoPilot t shame, for free and my widgets.

But that's what works for me, but I do understand where MaxiT is coming from even though he may not believe me, it is a tough choice to make.

To me Max though it does sound like you like Windows, so why not make the full leap? It is Microsoft and you know they won't let it die, plus it's backed up by Nokia, both these companies have many many years experience in smartphones far exceeding Apples or Googles experience. So try it.

Symbian was kinda at it's end, it was going for a fair few years. And the same for Windows CE. I guess I mean in the current context they will make sure it's given a fair chance, it is but a baby compared to Symbian and CE.

Blimey your going to make me all nostalgic and remember my Sony Ericsson P800 and P990 and my Compaq Ipaq I once had, all sold on ebay after a while, sometimes think should I have kept them and made a little display with them?

I think that, ultimately, the real problem is the tech blog saturation, though. Months upon months, blogs will post click-bait articles which create unrealistic expectations among the people who read them.

Agreed. I switched from iOS to Android because I wanted a larger screen and widgets. I haven't tried to convert the other 3 iPhone users in my house because it works best for them.
 
I want a larger screen phone because a lot time it has become my only media device use when traveling . Plus i do not want to carry both a tablet and phone when traveling for work

Same. I don't encourage my wife to change, and she loves her iPhone 5, soon to be my 5S.

If anything it's easier keeping her on the iPhone because odds are I will get another iPhone in the future.

My first Apple experience are dated 1989, with Macintosh. The complete switch from windows environment dated 2005 when I purchased the iMac Intel powered , followed a few months after by a white MacBook 13". Never had regrets. Never look back.

Quite naturally I bought my first iPhone in 2008, the iPhone 3G (the original iPhone wasn't available in Europe), and since then I owned every iPhone's iteration, including my actual iPhone 5S.

Due to my job I need to have with me a second phone, so I basically tried every other interesting products (I'm a really tech enthusiast), but my primary phone was and is the iPhone. I also have an iPad, actually every single version except for the iPad 3 (when I decided to switch from my previous iPad 2, Apple released the 4). And a MacBook Pro 15". And a Mini. And a MacBook Air 11" (for my wife).

My home is permeated with a strong Apple ecosystem.

Well, for the first time in my recent life, I'm not sure my next flagship will be the iPhone 6.

Why ? I can't give you a direct answer. Am I satisfied by my iPhone 5S ? Yes .... and no.

It's a premium product. It's well designed, well manufactured, it has a top notch technology inside (I truly love how Apple caught all other vendors unprepared with the A7) ..... but it is somewhat "half baked".

The display is too small. Don't get me wrong, I need a compact primary phone (my secondary is a phablet), but this one is too small by any means. The missed the point after iPhone 5. That was the moment to make a change.

And this is related to iOS 7.

It was a new iOS, an innovation compared to every previous iteration, but is was not really innovative .... I don't know how to explain it. It was "more of the same" , just presented in a slightly different form.

Now we are waiting for the iPhone 6. We know it will sports a bigger display. We know there will be a phablet version.

But it will be "more of the same", nevertheless.

I'm not going to judge something without seeing it, but with all the rumors and with the iOS 8 presentation I'm afraid we are not going to have a revolution here.

I'm using Android and windows Phone 8.1 on a daily base (Nexus 7 and Lumia 1520), and while they have several defects (especially Android), they both are satisfying me more than iOS. WP 8.1 in my opinion is absolutely the best os out there (I'm speaking about the os, not the App Store ).

Now I'm debated, and I don't know what to do.

There are strong points in favor of iOS and iPhone (think about the App Store, by far better than any regardless what Android supporters are claiming), and the ecosystem I'm used to. But I'm not going to spend 730€ or more for the iPhone 6 if it won't satisfy my expectations.



How many of you share my feeling ?

You don't make any sense op.

First you claim the iPhone 5s to be "half baked" , then proceed to cite a 4 inch display as the main reason for your premise.
And if apple offers a larger iPhone display it would be " more of the same" ?

Same here - my wife is happy with the iPhone and it all that it does. I think switching platforms in her case would be a headache and I'd be sleeping on the couch because of it :eek:
 
For me IOS 8 has addressed many of the issues I have had with ios in the past ( widgets, quick reply/active notifications, better keyboard/ 3rd party keyboards) its also releaae some great APIs for developers and the new programming code and METAL should basically make iOS games and apps reach a new level beyond what android can do.

Which is why I'm probably gonna move back to iOS if they release an iPhone with a 4.7 inch or bigger screen.

The only problems I have with iOS now is that its still the same old iOS in terms of just rows of apps etc and I would have liked to see them allow widgets on the home screen like android.

Another major major problem is also the lack of ability to make your own default apps. I want the ability to make google maps , Google mail or what ever app I want the default.

But I'm willing to saxrifice those two things to have the abilities iOS offers that android ( or most android phones ) don't offer like touch id ( which now has opened up a api which could be a game changer) and the ability to interact with macs now

I couldn't tear my wife from her 4s. But when the Note2 came out she dropped the 4S like a stone. Now she doesn't even bother about reading news about iphone anymore. What attracted her to note is the large screen and the stylus.

Same here, my girlfriend has been utterly jealous of my Note 2 since I got it, for the same reasons. She doesn't like to spend money leisurely though so she's waiting for her contract to run out before she gets a new phone. I've told her the next iPhone might be quite different thanks to iOS 8 and the larger screen, but she just won't have it...she's done with the iPhone :D

It will be quite ironic if we end up in the opposite way, me with the iPhone and she on Android... Especially if I end up again being the one more satisified with my choice...
 
Yet another person who doesn’t know what “innovation” means is thus leaving a system for another system because they think a large screen on a cell phone is “innovative”.
 
My wife only makes calls and texts on her phone ewwe, I know, strange indeed. The silver lining is that she uses an old Nokia pre ark phone and keeps it forever so guess who gets her upgrades.:)
 
In spite of what Tim Cook says I find Android much better than my iPhone. Big screen aside, the big plus for me is that I get to use the apps I want to. On my iPhone, I used an excellent calendar app called Fantatical, it really was a great app. It was frustrating then when I opened and event sent to me it opened in iCal. Web pages open into in Safari instead of Chrome. So I switched to Android. Oh and apple really does charge a big fee for storage upgrades. For me Android is a better value.
 
Just know that it's an absolute nightmare trying to get an Android device to work with anything other than the Google ecosystem. I tried to have a Moto X, MacBook, and iPad; it was a complete disaster.

I have been doing this for years....works great. Currently I have the phones and devices in my signature. They all sync and all play nice with each other......
Photos = Dropbox syncs across all devices and cross platform.
Calendar = Google Calendar again same as above
Contacts/Address Book see above same results......
Browser = Chrome sync bookmarks across all devices.....can even sync open tabs......

Those would be Google services, except dropbox.

I guess you haven't met Windows Phone 8.1
iCloud calendars, contacts, and email sync is built in and in the case of calendars and contacts it works better than Apple. I can make an update on my Macbook Pro and it syncs within a minute or two to my phone as opposed to taking 20 minutes on my 4S that I sold off recently.
