And running wires across the room.Quadraphonic did not fail because of an issue with "phantom center." It failed because the industry could not agree on a standard format, leading towards consumer confusion. (Not to mention the high costs associated with setting up a quad system at the time.)
And with a bad mix, even 11 channels sounds badWith enough speakers, anything can be surround.
I recently had the issue with mine playing music on their own and it ALWAYS happened while I was in bed. Did some digging and the issue is apparently “phantom touch” on the display triggering it. The workaround is to use the accessibility settings to increase the touch duration. I have yet to have it happen since then. That’s nice but I’ll never get another HomePod until the bugs and issues that have been happening for YEARS are fixed. Hardware wise they sound great, software wise they are an endless source of frustration. WiFi issues, playing music on their own like they’re haunted, WiFi connection issues, oh did I mention WiFi connection issues? See my long post about this. This goes back to iOS 16 days. Never again. Overpriced garbage.
I mean, a premium product that provides a profit when each one sells sounds like “success” to me.This is not meant to be a success, just a niche premium product for people who are so deep inside the ecosystem they'd buy anything Apple and use it the way Apple says.
I was “gifted” a HomePod mini a few years back and it is probably the worst experience I’ve ever had with an Apple product. Terrible connection, sound delays, haunted phantom music playing, I would never buy these based on that experience. I’ll take a high quality soundbar and call it a wrap. That’s nice but I’ll never get another HomePod until the bugs and issues that have been happening for YEARS are fixed. But doesn't that mean that the Quads are not really a good comparison with the HomePods?... For that money I'd expect up firing speakers like the quads on the HomePods, not the pseudo thing they've got going on just now.
I attempted to use two HomePods as a stereo pair but it was a complete disaster. There were numerous sync issues even when paired with Apple TV. Frustrated, I decided to stick with just one and I’m thoroughly satisfied.
Ehhh….plugging things in is so 2014.As great as the sound quality was (is?), the Homepod will never be a success if it doesn't have line-in or USB support.
