Apple appears to have joined Meta-owned social media site Threads, two years after Threads first launched. Apple has a verified Threads profile and the @Apple handle, but has yet to make any posts. Apple's account has 4.8 million followers, because of its existing followers on Instagram.

It's not clear why Apple has opted to make a Threads account, and there's no word on whether it will actually see use. Apple also has the @Apple handle on X, but it uses the account for advertising and does not share content there (though it does on other specific feature accounts). Apple has a similar unused Facebook account.

Apple does have an active @Apple Instagram account where it regularly posts Shot on iPhone videos, and an @Apple TikTok account for sharing Apple product tips.

(Thanks, Matthew!)

I'm in favour of companies existing on these networks for customer support. "Be where the people are."

But these networks needs to be two-way communications. When a customer reaches out to a company, that company should respond, not ignore or send back a boilerplate response. Way too many companies get this wrong.

Then there's Mark Hamill and Mark Cuban leaving Blue Sky and coming back to X.
That’s just not true, both post on BlueSky all the time.

There’s not going to be one text-based social media network to rule them all, we’re going to have to get used to all three having their purposes.

That being said, I stopped using Twitter the day Musk bought it and only use social media for basketball news and analysis.

considering they came back, it goes to show how pointless bluesky is.

and this is before bluesky begins monetization. bluesky will just turn back into X with ads/premium features, etc...

After ruining Instagram with god awful ads, ads and more random promoted posts. I have realised that I log in far less and less than ever before, it's almost the same fate as Facebook eventually.

I did try Threads, was a ghost town and left within a week. Instagram refuses to let me go however, with ads and notifications coming in to join back cause I deleted their damn app.

I don’t quite get why you want Bluesky to go away, but I get to hang out and chat hoops with my favourite writers, like Howard Beck, Seth Partnow and Kevin Pelton in a chill environment. So I like it and I’ll stay there, as will many others.

What celebrities do is a matter for them, most of them are just chasing an audience to promote stuff too. That’s never that interesting.
