I really want the watch and new iPad Pro, but alas....

Like you, i am in an either-or situation right now.

This is the first year that i migh not buy a new product or like you guys get 1 like the watch and call it a day. Just wow on the pricing and watch also jumped over a hundred.

Is anyone else in this boat?

Apple just priced themselves out of contention when it comes to buying both new products. The phone I'm interested in is the Max, but the cost is so prohibitive, I can't justify that AND the new Apple Watch.

Crazy days.

What would help me decide is making a pro/con list for each item. Whatever ticks the most pros in your book and fits your needs is what you go with.

For me, I am glad I got the Apple Watch Series 1 on sale earlier this year. It does what I need it to and I can get the iPhone XR next month.

Just wait a month, Best buy will have them on sale

I was hoping for an increase in the number of Complications on all watch faces, especially the Modular. Now (or until) I am just kinda “meh.”

i am getting the cellular version of the watch and paying it monthly with at&t

Apple priced me out last year, so I held onto my 7 Plus.

But see - the Watch is now $70 more. The iPhone XS MAX is $100 more than the previous flagship (and you may argue it is a new premium category of device and not the flagship).

Have $170 priced you out of these devices?

Those are only price increases. Don’t forget, the phone isn’t $100 more, it’s $1100 more than what the OP has. That’s what prices people out. I understand what you’re trying to say it’s just that it’s already a stretch for some to drop 1k on a phone.

Anyway, Apples model has changed a while ago. They are extremely happy if you buy new devices every year but they figured out its better to have people buy a different device every year. Hang on to that iPhone 7, buy a watch. Hang on to that series 3 and get the new iPad Pro. It’s a brilliant revenue machine.

Well, OP complained about being priced out of the new iPhone, so I guess the comparison was between the new and the old one.

But you’re right: I don’t think anyone but the best fanboys always have te latest generation everything. This year I got a MBP, before that an i7P, and now my S0 watch needs replacing.

Lol exactly. I’m in the same boat, last year was iPad, this year is iPhone. They got me in their money making machine.

I did watch, iPad and phone last year so what is there for me to buy this year lol

I’ve already bought 2 HomePods and an iPad mini this year. By rights I should be due a chill year lol

I'm switching to an iPhone this year, and I was hoping to also get a watch now that I will have a compatible phone, but with the prices of the Xr my budget for the watch has been compromised. I really want the ECG feature of the Series 4, so I won't get the Series 3 to save money. It's the 4 or no watch.

The ECG feature will only be available in the US initially though, and who knows how long the EU will take to approve it. Maybe it's going to take a year? Who knows.

Apple products are expensive, and this year the Apple Watch did increase with price as well. I find most likely will pay out right for their Apple Watch, where they finance their phones. Probably more manageable for most, it really just depends on one’s financial situation and what works for them.

I bought an iPad Pro 2 months back. Absolutely love it! I need a new phone, currently using an iPhone 6. I was eager to see the new iPhones but at $60 a month with AT&T next I am seriously considering purchasing a new Apple Watch over the iPhone. With the iPad Pro my iPhone has resorted back to being used as a phone and I do everything else on the iPad.

^^^This. I use my iPad more than my phone these days.

What you are not considering here is that by the time the ECG feature is available to you, the series 5 could be almost here, or actually here. Thats why I am not chancing the series 4, well that and the price hike while I have an immaculate perfectly functioning series 2 on my arm.

I think that the wife and I are going to leap and get series 4 watches. She has a series 3 and I have a Nike Edition series 2. The ECG feature is nice and hope it comes out sooner than Sir Ruben speculates ( probably true but one can hope for it sooner). The other features and styling make it more appealing. We will probably get it from our provider and do the monthly payment thing. As far as the iPhone I think that with our Sprint plan we can upgrade pretty cheap and even though I love the size of the 8 Plus due to costs I will probably go for the standard Xs. Of course my iPhone upgrade window doesn't start until November so I still have some time. However like the general consensus is that Apple prices seem to be going higher and higher. Of course you get what you pay for. If I had to drop down to an Android I think I would shoot myself. :)

I'm quite interested in the Apple Watch, but until it can get close to 48 hours of battery life, I'm sticking to my chunky Fitbit. Fitbits keep getting better too so maybe I'll end up with another Fitbit at some point.

I was holding out for the AW4 as my first ever. My choice would be the SS BUT AT $750, and not wanting cellular, I need to rethink this. The Rolex will still be on my wrist.

Even if you purchase the stainless steel Apple Watch, you *don’t* have to activate the cellular. Its Optional.
