99.9% of iPhone buyers probably didn't know the connector changed.
Only that the phone was longer/larger. This is what the media has been promoting.

Then they go looking for adapters to find there are none.
They are stuck with one for now and when Apple releases the adapter, people will crap their pants since it will cost $29.99 for each adapter, in which most people will need at least 2 more.
1 for home, 1 for the car and 1 for work.

Then what will apple charge for an adapter with power outlet?
$49.99 ?

99.9% of posters who cite made up statistics are probably trolls. Whoops, wait a minute...

Nobody actually "needs" more than the one cable and AC adapter that come with the phone. Some people are willing to pay for extra cables for the added convenience of being able to charge or sync at work, or connect to their car stereo without having to bring a cable with them. The Apple Lightning to USB cables are $19, and are available in good quantity in my market. Those willing to bear with the inconvenience for a couple months until less expensive 3rd party cables are available can hold off and possibly save a few bucks. These cables work with any USB Type-A port or charger.

The $29-$39 Lightning to 30-pin dock connector adapters, which are apparently in short supply and have been deemed rather expensive by some, are only necessary if you want to use your new iPhone 5 with accessories that have a 30-pin dock connector, but no provision for USB, analog audio, WiFi / AirPlay, or Bluetooth connectivity, e.g. an old Bose SoundDock series I or custom car stereo integration kit. The use cases for which the 30-pin adapters are arguably the best solution are few and far between. I'm of the opinion that Apple deliberately priced the adapters higher than the cables so that people would't thoughtlessly buy something they didn't really need. I'm not sure why people are so fired up about this issue, when there is currently no wired display output solution available.

This is all nonsense. You will need more cables and adapters are priced at $29 because apple can over charge and they do. Theres no logical reasoning on apples part. Its just profit mongering.

Why would anybody "need" more than one cable? If one should desire additional cables, aside from the early adopters who decided to buy products with a brand new interface within the first two months of its introduction, why would anyone need to buy a cable from Apple?

Why would anyone "need" a Lightning to 30-pin dock connector adapter, ever?

Why do you feel Apple is overcharging for these cables and adapters? What were there development costs for this new interface? What does it cost them to produce one of these cables or adapters at this point in time? What would you charge if it was your job to determine the pricing and why?

For nine years, Apple has charged $19 for the USB to 30-pin dock connector cable. Why do you think they should charge less for the Lightning to USB cable? Which cable has the higher profit margin for Apple right now?

I just wish Apple manufactured more cables for launch, enough for 3rd party retailers to have to sell for a while. My local Best Buy never received any (according to the sales rep.). I went ahead and ordered an extra one from the Apple Store online, but it'll take a few weeks.

A statement devoid of any reasoning.

What's the alternative, govt control?

Prices are high at the beginning of any new technology. If you can't wait, you pay.

I agree, comrade.

You both agree, yet neither of you can provide a single cogent argument that supports that claim?

Edit: Never mind, I see now that sarcasm was intended in your original post.

When I bought my iPhone 5, I gave the Apple Store $19 for a cool looking cable that works quite well. The AT&T Store charged me a $36 upgrade fee, which was apparently for the privelege of giving them 47% down on the phone while signing a contract worth $2519.76. What cool new technologies have AT&T's engineers created for me? The service and coverage in my market have been barely passable for years. Aparrently the people complaining about Apple's adapter prices are too stupid to realize who's actually ********** them.

Huh?

When has apple ever lowered the price on their hugely overpriced adapters an cables.

I can get 30 pin cables for 90% less so yeah, apple is overcharging.

They did not need to release a new connector nor do they have to make the transition so expensive. Its all about new profitable revenue streams.

And why would people need an adapter. Well i need one for my cars proprietary ipod cable, and my speaker dock that does not use bluetooth. Why should i have to replace that or any dock.

I would have used white shrink wrap tubing

Black electrical tape is more common, but I guess us Apple nerds should hoard some white tape, too. :p

Glassed Silver:mac

He considered it but it cost 99 cents more.

(JK--I like the cable-maker's "get 'er done" attitude.)

looks good try white heat shrink tape next time they make it.

I would has used white tape :)

Happy now? :D  Redone:

Huh?

Where did I say Apple lowered their prices on adapters an[d] cables? Answer: I didn't. Actually read my post before replying. I was talking about the technology curve.

Early on the curve - single or few manufacturers and high prices
Later on the curve - many manufacturers and lower prices.

Guess which part of the technology curve lightening connectors, cables and adapters are in? People think complaining about greed and 'profit mongering' will magically make the technology curve disappear or change. Such people need to accept reality.

My comments stand. With rapid manufacturing today we are later on the curve. I never pay apple for tech that can be had for less. Hence their attempt to control the market.

Did not ask apple to build new proprietary connectors. There was no need to do so. why didn't they include at least 1 adapter with the phone? Would have been the right thing to do ...

Oh that's right, why give away what you can sell.

I would has used white tape :)

why use white tape when he obviously already has spools of black tape?

But seriously cutting an existing cable and inserting extension cabling cannot be deemed 'making my own lightning cable'. That's like pointing to a red house and saying 'I made that red house'. How? I bought a white house and painted it red.

This is what happens when you charge $30 for a connector apple. That's too much money. We are already spending premium prices for the product . At least give us a reasonably price accessory
