I'm still unclear on the reason for Apple having both the 16e (and the upcoming 17e), along with the base 17, etc. I know one argument is the upsell, getting people interested in the 16e/17e and then seeing that the base 17 with some better specs is about $200 more, but still.

The e series is on my radar for a replacement to my 15Pro. I don’t expect to replace it for a few years yet, so Apple has plenty of time to refine the e or iterate the Air or come out with another mini. While I’m not holding my breath on a mini, if they do release one that will be the sole reason I’d replace my present iPhone in the next two years.

That and a “tech need”. If the older iPhones (including mine) that are vulnerable to things that have been hardened out of the newer phones comes to pass, that’s an instant-upgrade reason for me.
