what are you guys doing with these remotes? We have like four of them, drop them all the damn time, they never break.
I agree. It’s 40cm from couch to floor which are made of wood or rug…? And brushing against the touchpad by mistake while watching a movie? My remote is on the table while I watch a movie, I am not fiddling with it. I must be weird (and you, too, apparently).

Not sure this article is relevant; the original revolution came with the ATV years before that.
None of these anniversary posts are very relevant. Just filling the space when not much to write about. At least this one is 10 years instead of the random numbers in the past articles.

Apple also positioned the device as a casual gaming platform. Independent developers such as Hipster Whale demonstrated the hit title "Crossy Road" with support for multiplayer gameplay using the Siri Remote and iPhones as secondary controllers.
Apple TV shares the same struggles as the iPad Pro and Vision Pro: amazing hardware and raw performance, but lack of software support.

Even if you are correct to some degree this affects the Apple TV Far less because tvOS gives the least features out of the other OS’s Apple releases and not many people totally care about new tvOS Features they would be more happy that tvOS 26 supports every tvOS Capable system

The Apple TV is my favourite streaming device. Audio is good enough. The dealbreaker for me on other devices (apart from the OS being bad) is the lack of absolutely reliable system level frame rate matching. I want every video to play at the correct frame rate and set the display accordingly. Apparently this is a hard problem if you’re not Apple.

A long time ago. Considering that it is 10th anniversary now, Apple might launch a new one this year. However don't think it will be a major upgrade. Most probably it will have a new chip and the speed improvements that come with it.

one of apple’s best devices. a genuine joy to use, especially compared to everything else on the market. i just wish apple did more to encourage game development for apple tv.
I used to like it, but after smart TVs have become the standard I see no use for this anymore. I haven't turned it on for at least a couple of years now.

Gosh I’m starting to feel old. My first Mac was a plastic MacBook with IntelCore 2 Duo and my first AppleTV was a shiny aluminum box, my first iPhone was imported from the US and jailbroken to allow a local carrier, and it was the first one. I remember purchasing software in boxes and the amazement ad Apple’s Aperture. Ok. Ok. Enough.

Anyway, AppleTV proved to be much more than a hobby in the long run. Thanks to Apple I cut the cord and never looked back.

Really hoping a new model is still imminent. I have the 4K model before the current 4K, and it was doing great, until I installed TVOS 26. This is the only Apple device that is not riding the 26 wave well. Jerky movements, Dolby Vision randomly switching off the screen for a few seconds, video and audio randomly cutting out. Maybe the coming dot one update will fix these things, maybe not. Either way, I want a new model.

We have two of AppleTV 4K 2017 (64GB) and they both run tvOS26 without noticeable issues. Haven't seen jerky movements or stutter so far. If you really look closely, then there is a very slight difference in UI speed when connected to a HD TV or a 4K TV.
When I bought the first one it has been in daily use ever since. It replaced cable and DVD in just two weeks and that is now 8 years ago. The second one for the bedroom was bought just a few months later. No regrets whatsoever.

But I'm certainly in for a new model that supports hardware raytracing. Fingers crossed.

Aka a complete lack of vision

Hello,
this might be a settings issue? Go to Settings.>Video and Audio> Format - select- 4K SDR.
Go down to Match Content> Range & Frame Rate (turn On).
You should still see video in HDR and Dolby Vision. When its broadcast that way.
You should lose the other things You have been experiencing.
There was a thread about this a few days ago. I can’t find now?
Hope this helps.
Best

We are strong on Apple products (MBP and Air with M1, watches, ipads), but have sold both apple TV boxes and happy with firesticks on all 5 TVs.

...Just install Channels app + HDHomerun and you get free OTA channels in your Apple TV. You can also add Sling TV and Xfinity TV to your Channels DVR Server app and have all your cable and OTA channels in your Apple TV 4K.

ChannelsDVR is among the smartest things we moved to. Been three years and LOVE it. Up until this spring, have been running it on a 2013 MBP as the server. Wife friendly too!
