Dies anyone know if you need to bring some sort of proof? I asked in the previous thread and I got mixed answers. Most were saying that a student card/ID would be accepted; however, I'm entering university this fall and don't have one yet. Would I have to bring in my acceptance letter and photo ID with my name on it?

From what I've seen before, I believe just an acceptance letter is generally enough. The photo ID probably won't be necessary, but bring it if it makes you feel more secure. I've also heard of people logging into their college's site in the store is acceptable proof.

I believe once you've credited the amount to your iTunes account you can walk into a physical Apple store and use the iOS 'Apple Store' app & 'EasyPay' to pay for physical items (with some or all of this 'free' credit)?

This deal expires September 6th so you know the iPhone 5s launch is a week later.

You sir, win the internet. I'm pretty sure this is how it's worked for the last couple years. Promo ends Friday, Sept. 6th. An iPhone event Tuesday the 10th, and launch Friday the 20th. This is in line with previous rumors too. Pretty much a done deal now as far as I'm concerned.

I purchased a macbook pro for school and they verified my student status via my school email address. If you have been accepted to a university, one of the first things you should receive is a school email account.

in years past they didn't require you to sign up your email and wait for a code or any such. Which is perhaps what they need to do to make sure folks aren't lying. And even just credit the $50/100 directly to your apple id so folks stop reselling those cards.

You believe wrong. The Easy Pay function only works with a credit card on file NOT store credits.

Wearing a watch?

Anyone else notice that the student in the ad is wearing a watch? This *had* to be intentional. Seriously - when's the last time you saw a college student wearing a watch?

Also interesting:

Until 06-Sep-2013, you can pay in 12 installments with 0% interest.
This not only applies to education customers (at least in the Austrian store).

That's another at least 2% off, if you count in inflation.

So I hope Apple releases the Haswell 13" rMBPs before 06-Sep :)

Called Apple Customer Support this morning and they told me that I would get a $100 Gift Card, the lady excalated my request (to higher officials I guess) because the first MBA I order on the 11th of June had a manufacturing defect and had to be returned for an even exchange, which is currently at the build-up stage since it is BTO.

The lady was pretty nice, she gave me her direct number and extension in the case I don't get anything within 48 hrs; she said that morelikely I wasn't going to need to call her since she will be looking over for my request to be finalized and that she would call me herself.

Apple is pretty cool. :p I will be finally able to put iWork on my soon to come MBA! XD

It depends. If you buy it in the Apple store, bring what you suggest. If you buy it online go to the Apple Education Store, and no ID is required. You just have to select the proper school.

Is this the place where folks start asking how they can game the system and lie their way into the edu discount and free gift card?

Does this mean Apple will wait until after Sept. 6th to update the retina MBP to Haswell? That seems too long of a delay, but i highly doubt apple would update the rMBP in the middle of the BTS promo.

I need a laptop for college, should i wait for the update or just take the back to school deal?

How far does $100 get you on App store software these days, anyway?

I was so ready to buy a new Retina, too.

Are you speaking of the respective values of cards including currency conversion? Because I think that the card amounts vary to account for that.

But if you'd like someone to tell you that the average price of top apps over the years has increased by leaps and bounds, you might be disappointed. :)

I'm ready to pull the trigger on an MBA but am thinking about waiting until my state's tax free weekend to go along with the back to school promo.

Does anyone know if you can buy online during the tax free weekend and Apple honor the tax exepmtion? The MBA configuration I am wanting is not in the stores so I will have to purchase online.

I don't think I've spent $100 total in the App Store in the 4 years I've had iOS devices.

If you include iTunes Store (and Apple TV Movie Rentals) though, that's a different story.

I can't recall a time when Apple updated their computers during the summer (besides June). Most likely they'll update them at some fall event. So if you need one now, get it. You'll have at least 3 months of "new-ness" at least.
