New MBPs = School Promotion. Like Clockwork, Apple's timing is impeccable this time around.
I was hoping to use in to buy an updated iMac, though

The 2017 iMac, MacBook Pro, and MacBook updates were all launched in early June though. The 2017 back to school promotion was announced the same date, July 12.
You could always try waiting until mid-September.I was hoping to use in to buy an updated iMac, though![]()
Most US schools are out from June till the end of Aug
BTW, I use my Beats Solo3 Wireless headphones every day at work.I'm not a big fan of Beats, but I must say the Beats Solo3 Wireless are pretty decent. Yeah, they're expensive, but if you're getting them for free, why complain?

Why do they have a 'Back to School' promotion when the kids haven't even left yet for the holidays?
I'm consistently amazed by the negative attitudes from people on the internet regarding FREE items. Beats are overpriced at retail, but they are NOT garbage. Especially for free...Bleh. Just offer AirPods. Who wants that beats garbage?
Oh look, someone else who has obviously never used them. Your estimation of $15 is the only laughable part of this. The W1 chip alone is worth more than that. How nice of Apple to literally just give away ~$15 headphones with a $1000+ purchase, that's... laughable at best.![]()
Some of the old Beats were WAY overpriced and not very good. Mediocre stuff at insane prices. However, by most reviews the Beats Solo3 is a decent upgrade over prior models, and I personally think they're pretty decent too. Not worth the US$300 retail price, but I think they are reasonable to be sold for $200.I'm consistently amazed by the negative attitudes from people on the internet regarding FREE items. Indeed. Even if they should only be priced at $200 retail and sold at $150 on sale, that's still $150 - $200 free with this deal.Oh look, someone else who has obviously never used them. Your estimation of $15 is the only laughable part of this. The W1 chip alone is worth more than that.
A lot of people think like you do, but what they do is just sell on eBay or Kijiji. The only problem with this is there is a flood of them for sale in August. You can keep the beats Apple just take their value which is not much off my Mac Book purchase.

AirPods don't fit half of the population due to their single size. It wouldn't make any sense to offer them to people who can't physically keep them in their ears.Bleh. Just offer AirPods. Who wants that beats garbage?
I would have to agree with you on that ..A lot of people think like you do, but what they do is just sell on eBay or Kijiji. The only problem with this is there is a flood of them for sale in August.

My kid has been off since May 24th and goes back Aug 15th. Not all schools start in September!
As a retired teacher, I have to say say that the phrase "back to school" affects me in about the same way as being told by my lawyer "your appeal has been denied," or by my doctor "don't bother starting any long Russian novels."There's something just fundamentally wrong about promoting "back to school" in the middle of July. Heck, Summer has barely started.
Both of my university daughters were out mid-May. The local K-12 school districts all end before Memorial Day. Albeit they resume mid-August. Timing seems about right for this part of the country (Colorado). Most US schools are out from June till the end of Aug
