Free Beats? Big whup.

How about free Air Pods instead? :)

Beats are the headphones very few people purchase due to the inflated price & poor audio quality when compared to numerous others available.

This has probably been asked and answered many times in past years, but since I'm in the market: are these Beats in addition to the student discount?

Apple today launched its annual Back to School free Beats promotion in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and like it did last year, the 2019 edition has also gone live simultaneously in many European countries.

However unlike previous years, Apple has simultaneously updated some Macs and killed off others: the MacBook Air now has True Tone display technology, and the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro now has a Touch Bar and the latest 8th-generation quad-core processors. The MacBook Air is $1,099 ($999 for college students) while the 13-inch MacBook Pro is $1,299 ($1,199 for college students).

Aside from those surprise hardware updates, Apple is promoting its traditional limited time back-to-school offer for qualifying higher-education students, parents purchasing on behalf of higher-education students, and faculty and staff at both higher-education and K-12 institutions. All can receive a free or discounted pair of Beats headphones with the purchase of an eligible Mac, iPad Pro, or iPad Air.

Apple is offering the choice of free Beats Studio3 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones, Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones or BeatsX Earphones with the purchase of a new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, or iMac Pro. As with previous years, the Mac mini is excluded, as is the 2017 13-inch MacBook Air this year.

Apple is also offering free BeatsX or Solo3 Wireless with the purchase of any new 11-inch or 12.9-inch iPad Pro or iPad Air, with the option to pay $150 USD or equivalent extra for Studio3 Wireless headphones.

The promotion runs until September 26, 2019, and is available through Apple's online store, retail stores, and authorized campus stores, or by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. Read the terms and conditions for complete details.

Participating countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East include Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.

In select countries, student verification via UNiDAYS is required.

Perfect timing. My wife who’s a college instructor needs a new MBA, told her to wait till they come with the 2019 kB. I’m leaning towards keeping the free Studio3s. How bad can they be?

Not sure if this happened today, or with the other recent MacBook Pro updates, but UK pricing has now increased. Previous price of a 15" MacBook Pro was £2,349, now it's £2,399 and the higher end model was £2,699 and is now £2,799. Moving in the wrong way Apple!!

That’s not a bad deal. I won’t use the beats, but I’ll flip them for $300 on eBay to pay for my donglez.
You definitely are not gonna be able to flip them for $300 on eBay since that's what everyone does. You would need to be extremely lucky and find a dolt of a buyer. They're worth $150 to $200 on the aftermarket.

I just bought an iPad Pro 11 2 weeks ago. I should've waited. Could've used another pair of Beats ... ugh
Yep, Apple Back to School sale is easy one of the easiest cycles to predict, they always release it in early July.

My daughter (student) purchased a MBA from BB for $950 on sale about a month ago - still returnable until July 14. I spoke to BB and they said they aren't offering the Beats promo.

So, did the MBA change today to a slightly better model - I have read the display got better; confused about the keyboard and any difference.

Trying to gauge if it's worth returning to BB and purchasing from Apple. +$50.00 but free Beats and maybe a better laptop? Seems like it could be worth doing.

Thoughts?

The keyboard is better. The new MBA includes the latest (4th revision?) of the butterfly KB that’s on the 2019 MBPs.

If you want to keep your 2018 model, if/when the KB fails the KB will be replaced with 2019, so you’re still ok.

But why not return and repurchase, as you’ll also get the free Beats.

Oh, well even $150 in cash is more valuable to me than a pair of Beats lol.

Yes makes sense. Of course being a student everything is in the cloud so no pain even to do so!

If I were you I’d speak to Apple as they’re still offering this for products purchased on and after June 26!

Is this only for college students? What about high school students?

If you're going to offer $350 Beats Studio headphones for free for students, why not make the Powerbeats Pro Wireless an option as well when you only sell them for $250? These are the headphones people want.

Apple thinks they can give away the studio headphones and the same student will also buy the Powerbeats Pro Wireless in addition?

How many times can a student make a purchase with some beats headphones? Two? Only one? I'm interested in an iPad Air and an iPad Pro, and both are eligible for a beats...

I just bought a 12.9" iPad Pro, 512GB/WiFi (Model A1876 - MTFP2LL/A) from Walmart for $1,149 + tax. The Back to School price from Apple is $1,299.

So, the "free" Beats Solo3 Wireless headphones are only saving $50 when compared to Walmart's current sale price ($1,149 + $199 for the Beats). If you're in the market for a new iPad Pro and you don't want/need the Beats, you might want to check out Walmart (or Amazon, who has the same price; Best Buy is advertising $1,349 for that model but I think will price match).

Granted, buying an Apple device from Walmart felt sacrilegious...

I preferred it when you got a free iPod that you didn’t need rather than Beats that you didn’t want...

I'll probably pull the trigger on the baseline 13" MBP. It's not a bad price ($1200) and I can sell the Beats headphones to help buy an external SSD for media storage. I was waiting for the back to school sale before buying a new MBP, my 2015 13" MBPr is looking a little long in the tooth (battery lasts about 4-5 hours, some scratches, not as fast as it used to be) and a quad-core MBP for $1200 would be a nice upgrade.
