Yes, refurbished items are excluded from gift card offer

Mac Studio and Mac Pro are excluded.

Try going to a physical Apple store
Went to the store, and payment failed with their payment devices, they (including his supervisor) do not know how to fix it.

Even ask me to call support.

Sales tax doesn't apply to the gift card but does apply to when you make a purchase with that gift card. So if you buy a $100 gift card from any retailer, your total should be exactly USD $100.00, and then when you use it to buy something, let's say a five dollar item, your subtotal is $5.00 + 6% sales tax (for example, varies by U.S. state) = $5.30 paid by gift card, with $94.60 then remaining on it. So there is no double taxation for the consumer and no trickery one way or another for anyone involved.
I thought that sales tax wouldn't apply to the gift card itself (this is the same as the UK with valued added tax). I wasn't suggesting that there was any double taxation but charging for the gift card and deducting the cost of the product means less sales tax is paid by the consumer at the time of purchase. Apple probably also charge themselves for the gift card and enable a retail mark up (as they would when they sell gift cards to other retailers). The process of charging for the gift card will be beneficial accounting wise but I suspect a major benefit would be with returns.

Anyone heard anything about when it will start in the uk? Given it’s started a little early in the US this year I’m thinking it might start in the UK in the next 4 weeks, but could be in the next 2 perhaps?

Good stuff. I got the first iPad while I was in college and used the heck out of it. In honor of WWDC, I just picked up a new 12.9 inch iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil, Smart Keyboard, and of course can’t forget the Apple polishing cloth. I’m amazed how far iPads have come. So far I’m loving it. My last iPad was the original, so I was due for an upgrade lol.

I’ve been looking to get an M2 Mac Mini using the education discount (My wife homeschools our kids) and have seen that Apple hasn’t been doing the verification process. Are they more likely to do it during this promotion?
No verification is required. I think it's pretty awesome that Apple gives homeschoolers some respect.

I’m waiting to get a MacBook Air 15”. I think it might be next week. No rumours or anything to support my thoughts though.
The iPad Pro is on offer at Costco in the UK at the minute. If the two offers overlap you might have a few options to pick from but assume the Back To School will be better by far.

Sharing an awesome tip: I am saving $250 by using my new Discover card! My friend referred me to sign up for a new card. Since I used her link it says we both get $100 when I make a purchase in 3 months --which I am doing with this computer. THEN they also give you 5% back for certain categories each month with a max of $75 --and this month is Digital Wallets. So I paid with Apple Pay. BUT THEN they double your cash back at the end of the year if you're a new cardholder! That's another $75. So I'm getting back: $100+$75+$75 =$250 :) SO EXCITED! Just wanted to spread the savings.

So we get $150 off the total (let’s say a MacBook) and then we ALSO get a $150 and are “charged” for it at time of purchase? Do we get refunded that $150 later or what? I’m confused
Me too. I bought a MacBook Air used an apple gift card that I had towards a portion of it. They charged me the correct amount on my cc, my previous gift card balance is 0 the two together is the Total purchase price but I was also charged 150 for the promo gift card. So it looks like I paid for the promo 150 card? Do they credit my cc after the 14 days?

Still waiting, I think it'll be next week…

Correct, but there is no refund later. You pay the listed education price (-$150 off the Mac, +150 for the GC, net=0) and get a free GC to keep

I think this is a relic from 2021 when they gave away free Airpods. Back then, it was possible to set the Mac for delivery, Airpods for instore pickup, and not pick up the Airpods. This would result in Apple sending a credit card refund for the value of the airpods. So instead of getting $150 Airpods to keep you could effectively get $150 off the computer instead. So then they changed the way they charged for the Mac and Airpods with this system, and I guess they kept it around when they switched to gift cards.
