Apple today launched a repair program for Mac mini models with the M2 chip, after it determined that a "very small percentage" of these computers may no longer power on. No other Mac mini models are part of this program.

If your Mac mini has exhibited this issue, you can enter its serial number on Apple's website to see if it is eligible for this program. If it is, Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will provide service, free of charge.

Mac mini models with the M2 chip were first released in 2023, but Apple says that affected units were manufactured between June 16 and November 23 of 2024.

The worldwide program covers an eligible Mac mini for up to three years after it was purchased.

Apple did not provide a reason for the power issue.

😂

It's always "a very small percentage/number" of people affect.

“We are aware that a small number of users are having issues with their third-generation butterfly keyboard M2 Mac mini and for that we are sorry. The vast majority of Mac notebook mini customers are having a positive experience with the new keyboard Mac.”

Apple has the numers. We don't. I think I'll trust Apple far more than MacRumors posters

Butterfly keyboard service program was also a “small percentage.” 😂

Legally, if it’s “large,” there would be grounds for a recall, not service program.

Apple is saying 6 months worth of manufacturing, that doesn't sound small. So people that buy second hand, will be playing the lottery.

I had three replaced. On the same purchase within one year. Then my next model had no issues with the same keyboard. Weird for sure but seemed widespread based on the issues people reported and even the Apple staff seemed to report upon each replacement/repair. I ended up getting a new MBP next model year that was nicer with more of everything after my third repair and complaint.

It's always a small number and it's always a coverage of three years after purchase (and two years after release, when a lot of people already have paid an arm and a leg for a repair)

Checked my serial -- and it's not in the range. Had no problems, either.

I have had several Macs that got free repair due to flagged known issues -- like my 2014 MBP, which got a new lid because of a screen coating. Sometimes, Apple can be slow to acknowledge the problem, but less than 1 year is pretty good.

Honestly, it probably is.

The vast majority of the M2 Minis would have been made likely early before their original launch, with production scaling down over time.

Considering the M4 Mini came out in November 2024, which would have been made earlier as well, likely having some resources go towards that from M2 Minis...

Plus the mini itself's not exactly the best selling Mac.

Recently sold my M2 mini to a family member, they’ll be knocking on my door if it doesn’t turn on. o_O
I asked them if they want me to continue AppleCare but they said no.
