No security cable, bracket, or whatever prevents theft. Anyone who believes that they do is deluding themselves. All they are is a deterrent. Okay lock systems will just deter the opportunistic thief; better lock systems will deter the more determined thief. But either way, with the right tools and enough time, any security mechanism will be able to be bypassed.

Strictly speaking isn't that still prevention, albeit limited? If I don't have a tool to cut through it I'm prevented from stealing it right now. Yeah, I could come back with cutters, and it wouldn't prevent me then, but it did prevent me the first time.

Would be....

a felony if the lock burst out a little electric discharge?....LOL.....:D

It'll prevent a thief who happens to be walking by from taking it. Also, if anyone sees someone cutting a cable, he'll know it's a theft.

Cable is the weak point

When I found out about the new Mac Pro not having a lock hole I saw opportunity and figured out a way to retrofit the enclosure with a lock hole for cable locks only $29 ( http://macprolock.com ) This should have really been included in the original design so I found a way to make it work.

I still think that the cable itself is the weak point of the design as it can be cut with lock cutters. I've been working on a version which can mount to a table-top w/o the need of a cable.

Ridiculous

I have seen a lot of ****** things in my day, but charging 50 dollars for a lock that you sell for your system that cost 3000 dollars already is ridiculous. I would say at the very least sell a locking case that has it built in not some metal piece on the back. Just straight up ******...

There's easier ways to protect your $3000+ black cylindrical device..

Everybody is complaining Apple should have included the locks? This is a professional focused machine! We have 4 models and the locks would end up in a box in the closet! Not everybody needs them! We have ours in environmental climate control cases that are locked! ADT is a norm!

For a "professional" you don't have much insight or reading comprehension.

Apple should have included a Kensington security slot, so users could add a lock. You know, the kind of slot that has been standard on nearly every Apple desktop since inception? You wouldn't have any locks to throw away.

Believe it or not some professionals work from their own small office and some Pro machines are actual desktops used in public spaces. In those cases having a machine chained to a desk prevents a thief from just picking it up and running away. Casual thieves don't usually come prepared with bolt cutters.
