I'll complain a little more, eastamherstbias. Some of the previews are only 30 seconds. They're GET. Why can't we just hear the whole song?

I understand about the 30-second preview. it is probably just a general event that does this. if you want a longer preview...Apple will say download it and listen. don't like it, delete it and then remove from purchases.

but the first song was the 30-second preview and it took me by surprise.

The answer used to be clear: Apple wanted you to download songs, not use the iTunes Store as a streaming server. Now that Apple's buying into the streaming music service business, the distinction is less clear. Not to mention that they've previously extended the length of many song previews and added a "Preview All" button.

I can go to the The Beatles Box Set, click "Preview All", and listen for hours!

Available Worldwide

The article states in the last sentence that the free items are only available in the USA, but that's not quite correct. I'm accessing them from Costa Rica right now.

One only needs in an account in the US Store. You don't need to be or ever have been in the USA. If you have a US Store account, then the content is available worldwide.

In the same way, I also buy things from the Germany and Austria stores.

I'm liking this MUCH better than the single of the week! More songs to choose from and (I've downloaded them all) they are actually really good songs so far! Also like that they don't have the "free single of the week" watermark on the cover art. It's all their free media in one place. thanks Apple and great job!

Nice that they put it all in one place. I never took advantage of the free songs but always got free tv episodes when offered.

While they may have expanded the music content this section of iTunes isn't anything new. Before they did away with the song of the week there use to be a link on the right that took you to a page that featured free content and apps.

The only difference is that the section only had one or two free songs in a given week.

Featuring free series pilots isn't anything new. It's to get people interested in a new series. My guess is that many content developers have to pay Apple for the privilege of having their "free" content displayed in this new section.

The "Free on iTunes" link has reappeared on the right side of the iTunes Store home page.

Perfect! Having it free is making people download songs as much as they want. Just need to be careful with what you download. VPN makes me download faster.

I must be doing something wrong. I don't see any music, just tv shows.
