The feature is stuck on our iPhone X here. Also, it seems that the compass/magnetometer crashes (due to wrong init from the Clips app, or is there something wrong with a bunch of the Xs‘ magnetometers?) and only shows a glued needle pointing north.

Even a reboot does not revive the compass, though toggling the geographic north switch in compass settings seems to make it work again. Still doens‘t work for Clips Scenes after that, though.

The compass seems to work just fine on my phone, but nothing I do has been able to make the Clips' scenes work.

I’m in the same boat. No idea what’s going on. Compass works fine...but the background will not animate.

Yeah, I actually don‘t know if the compass issue is related, just something that popped up when checking potential sources for the problem.

The stuck compass might as well be a result of running the faulty Clips app or be totally unrelated. And it works again now after toggling the geographic north prefs switch. Clips doesn‘t.

Just the fact that the magnetometer got stuck at all and that this even survived an off/on cycle did not improve my confidence of having a intact phone...

I tried restoring as a brand new iPhone and clips worked fine.
Restored my backup again, reinstalled clips, and same issue.

Prob some corruption in my backup.
Is there no way at all to set up as new phone but keep historical info on a select few apps?
