Actually yes you are mistaken, as my initial post was a joke that you did not understand. I sent the exact message I intended to - a message of humor that at least 10 other people enjoyed.
Well, this whole exchange is basically beating a dead horse, but maybe I can try to explain where I was coming from.
Like I said, the reactions were scattered: four “agree”, three “disagree”, and only two “Haha”. If that’s the exact message you intended, then yes, you sent it...
I'm not checking your post history dude. But you are still not grasping that I made a joke you didn't get. There's nothing to apologize for and I'm certainly not asking for that. Sometimes people make jokes and not everyone gets them. I've been in your position many times. I bet you understand that.
I do grasp that I didn’t get your joke lol; I definitely wasn’t one of those who reacted haha. I did say “yeah I missed it...” in post #37. I thought I’d already made it clear that I didn’t understand your joke, but to reiterate: I didn’t understand your joke!
Since it wasn’t funny to me, I didn’t realize it was to you. I thought you were being serious, which why I initially replied as I did. I didn’t get or understand your joke, and completely missed the intended humor 🙂
Once you realize I made a joke, you will see none of my replies are "no context", you're just forcing a different conversation onto me. I made a joke and you're pretending like I'm some secret racist you uncovered.
Yes, I realize you were trying to make a joke. Jokes are supposed to be funny, though. You got 2 Haha’s out of 9 reactions.
Also, I wasn’t trying to force a conversation on you, I was just trying to bring in the article topic so my post wouldn’t be deleted as off-topic. And no, I wasn’t trying to pretend like you were some secret racist I uncovered. I’m glad to have the opportunity to correct that misunderstanding.
I haven't been in the comments for any other threads about Oprah, but my guess as to why threads about her draw anger and hate - she's a successful black woman who overcame nearly impossible odds and became more successful than almost any other person in the history of people. Anyone who feels threatened by that might lash out with hate. I don't know man, go ask the people who actually said disparaging things about her.
If you're hinting that I'm a "triggered snowflake", please refer to the part of the conversation where I never made a single comment about Oprah.
I wasn’t hinting at anything. I already said I’d misunderstood your original post, and that I shouldn’t have replied to yours but rather posted a new comment. My subsequent references to other posters do not include you.
I'm here carrying more than half the weight of this conversation because you think I am trying to disparage Oprah but you are failing to understand that I...made a joke.
In fact, let me explain my joke. I took the popular joke about Joe Rogan which is "Joe Rogan is like Oprah for men" and twisted it around. I'm not mocking anyone.
No, I don’t think you are trying to disparage Oprah. I did before you told me you were joking though. Here’s why: you led with “Never heard of her”.
imo your “flip the script” joke would have been just as funny—and much less prone to misinterpretation, at least by me—if you’d left that sentence out. That’s what set me off—triggered me, if you will 🤣—in the first place 🙂
“Never heard of her” is a dismissive statement, akin to “who’s Oprah”, or “Oprah who” or “what’s an Oprah”. Those type of statements are basically a meme around here. For instance, in an article about Lady Gaga, or Justin Bieber someone might post “What’s a Lady Gaga” or “who’s Justin Bieber, never heard of him.” That’s typically meant to be disparaging, ime. Comedy isn’t easy or universal, and sarcasm isn’t always so obvious.
I'm sorry, man. I'm glad you have these memories of your dad. It sounds like he was important to you. Mine is important to me and I'm fortunate to have him around now.
Thanks for the kind words. I hope your father will be around for decades to come 🙂
