I made a joke and you misunderstood it. What did I miss? Oh right, nothing at all.
Dial it back, Cowboy 🙂 I meant to say “Yeah I missed it all right 🤣”.

re: the second part of my post—“It’s not always so obvious, is it?”—I was referring to the scattershot reactions your post got: four “agree”, three “disagree”, and only two “Haha ” 🤷‍♂️

btw I did say “threatening to many” not “threatening to you”. I did mean it for the posts below yours as well. But I should have just made the post bare instead of replying to yours. My bad.

PS Did you read the thread? Oprah certainly does have a way of triggering certain people. Do we know why? Strong, powerful, woman? black? incredibly successful billionaire? progressive? fat? All of the above?

Who knows, but black men don’t seem to have a problem with her, nor do most women from what I can tell. Hmmm, an exercise left to the reader I guess.

Maybe one of our triggered snowflakes can explain this particular grievance 🤣

I can't stand this so obviously oppressed billionaire lecturing people on racial justice, educate white people about their whiteness. LOL.

If anything, she's one of the finest examples that any person of color can become successful in America if they only put in the effort, alongside Barack Obama. If USA is so racist, how could they have ever elected a black man president, TWICE?!

I mean that's the pinnacle of success, no?

Cowboy? Huh?

Feel free to dial yourself back until you can reply to someone without sending the exact opposite message you intend to.

Until then I'd keep the name calling to a minimum, lest I embarrass myself once again.

Left wing Democrats do, like Tim Cook. No one else does. I can't say more on this topic here sadly.
Lets just say the opportunity given to Oprah here is not equal and open to every single American citizen.
Hey ease up there mate, I'm left wing, and I can't stand Oprah. I also can't stand Captain Crook. Or hardcore feminists, and so on. People should stop trying to bucket everyone together as having the same thoughts and likes based on who they vote for. It would be like me suggesting every right wing Republican likes the Klu Klux Klan simply because most Klu Klux Klan members are right wing.

I’m happy to report I really liked the first episode of this podcast, I found it very interesting. It didn’t feel like I had to have read the book, although I do feel more inclined to do so now, which I guess was part of the motivation behind the podcast (to encourage people to read it).

Huh? Cowboy is name calling? 🤣 Maybe it doesn’t translate well into your native language 🤷‍♂️

And if I’m not mistaken, it was your original post that sent the exact opposite message that you intended 🙄 Pot, meet kettle.

And thanks for your concern, but I’m not embarrassed. My ego isn’t nearly so fragile as you’re projecting onto me. Check my post history and try to find someone who has admitted he’s wrong and/or apologized more than I. (I’ll wait, but I won’t hold my breath.)

But setting aside your no-content reply for the moment, what about the actual issue we were discussing? Is there some reason you’re unable to provide any counter argument whatsoever?

Triggered snowflakes up, down and all around. Do you have any thoughts on why every Oprah thread draws so much anger and hate? What buttons is she pushing in these people? Strong, powerful, woman? black? incredibly successful billionaire? progressive? fat? Any thoughts on that? Any ideas at all? Anyone? Bueller?

Or you just here to try to play gotcha?

FYI: My dad’s favorite nicknames for me were buddy, pal and cowboy. What I wouldn’t give to hear him call me Cowboy again...

No, but it does show that if a black person can, and did, become a billionaire, then there really isnt a merit to words about black people being oppressed and not being allowed/able to succeed. It's basically a paradox.
You’re kidding, right? That makes exactly zero sense.

That’s like saying the fact that Tim Cook is gay, and he’s the CEO of the world’s most valuable company, means there’s no oppression or discrimination against gays in the US?

Am I missing the sarcasm? I sure hope so.

Maybe because at least 50% of the country... isn’t racist, and has no problem voting for a black man? Make sense?

Yikes.

Amazing the inability of some to follow simple logic. Is this the effect of a couple decades of anti-education, anti-expertise Republican propaganda? The dumbing-down of textbooks (thanks Texas!)? Homeschooling? Charter schools?

It’s rather disheartening. Hopefully they’re still in middle school and there are still many years to replace ignorance with learning.

Actually yes you are mistaken, as my initial post was a joke that you did not understand. I sent the exact message I intended to - a message of humor that at least 10 other people enjoyed.

And thanks for your concern, but I’m not embarrassed. My ego isn’t nearly so fragile as you’re projecting onto me. Check my post history and try to find someone who has admitted he’s wrong and/or apologized more than I. (I’ll wait, but I won’t hold my breath.)

I'm not checking your post history dude. But you are still not grasping that I made a joke you didn't get. There's nothing to apologize for and I'm certainly not asking for that. Sometimes people make jokes and not everyone gets them. I've been in your position many times. I bet you understand that.

But setting aside your no-content reply for the moment, what about the actual issue we were discussing? Is there some reason you’re unable to provide any counter argument whatsoever?

Once you realize I made a joke, you will see none of my replies are "no context", you're just forcing a different conversation onto me. I made a joke and you're pretending like I'm some secret racist you uncovered.

I haven't been in the comments for any other threads about Oprah, but my guess as to why threads about her draw anger and hate - she's a successful black woman who overcame nearly impossible odds and became more successful than almost any other person in the history of people. Anyone who feels threatened by that might lash out with hate. I don't know man, go ask the people who actually said disparaging things about her.

If you're hinting that I'm a "triggered snowflake", please refer to the part of the conversation where I never made a single comment about Oprah.

Or you just here to try to play gotcha?

I'm here carrying more than half the weight of this conversation because you think I am trying to disparage Oprah but you are failing to understand that I...made a joke.

In fact, let me explain my joke. I took the popular joke about Joe Rogan which is "Joe Rogan is like Oprah for men" and twisted it around. I'm not mocking anyone.

FYI: My dad’s favorite nicknames for me were buddy, pal and cowboy. What I wouldn’t give to hear him call me Cowboy again...

I'm sorry, man. I'm glad you have these memories of your dad. It sounds like he was important to you. Mine is important to me and I'm fortunate to have him around now.

Well, this whole exchange is basically beating a dead horse, but maybe I can try to explain where I was coming from.

Like I said, the reactions were scattered: four “agree”, three “disagree”, and only two “Haha”. If that’s the exact message you intended, then yes, you sent it...

I do grasp that I didn’t get your joke lol; I definitely wasn’t one of those who reacted haha. I did say “yeah I missed it...” in post #37. I thought I’d already made it clear that I didn’t understand your joke, but to reiterate: I didn’t understand your joke!

Since it wasn’t funny to me, I didn’t realize it was to you. I thought you were being serious, which why I initially replied as I did. I didn’t get or understand your joke, and completely missed the intended humor 🙂
Once you realize I made a joke, you will see none of my replies are "no context", you're just forcing a different conversation onto me. I made a joke and you're pretending like I'm some secret racist you uncovered.
Yes, I realize you were trying to make a joke. Jokes are supposed to be funny, though. You got 2 Haha’s out of 9 reactions.

Also, I wasn’t trying to force a conversation on you, I was just trying to bring in the article topic so my post wouldn’t be deleted as off-topic. And no, I wasn’t trying to pretend like you were some secret racist I uncovered. I’m glad to have the opportunity to correct that misunderstanding.

I wasn’t hinting at anything. I already said I’d misunderstood your original post, and that I shouldn’t have replied to yours but rather posted a new comment. My subsequent references to other posters do not include you.

No, I don’t think you are trying to disparage Oprah. I did before you told me you were joking though. Here’s why: you led with “Never heard of her”.

imo your “flip the script” joke would have been just as funny—and much less prone to misinterpretation, at least by me—if you’d left that sentence out. That’s what set me off—triggered me, if you will 🤣—in the first place 🙂

“Never heard of her” is a dismissive statement, akin to “who’s Oprah”, or “Oprah who” or “what’s an Oprah”. Those type of statements are basically a meme around here. For instance, in an article about Lady Gaga, or Justin Bieber someone might post “What’s a Lady Gaga” or “who’s Justin Bieber, never heard of him.” That’s typically meant to be disparaging, ime. Comedy isn’t easy or universal, and sarcasm isn’t always so obvious.
I'm sorry, man. I'm glad you have these memories of your dad. It sounds like he was important to you. Mine is important to me and I'm fortunate to have him around now.
Thanks for the kind words. I hope your father will be around for decades to come 🙂
