I've seen people stream Snowrunner. Very relaxing game to watch. Wonder how it would run on my MBP M1 Pro. I might check it out.

Same for me with Obduction! I only made it through the third puzzle, but it’s more rewarding to watch someone play it who knows how to do everything. The phrase that comes to mind is “planetary engineering”.

Yeah.

From my (local, EU) perspective, these discounts only bring the games down to about the MSRP that these games sold for at launch.

I don't care if the devs or Apple have extra costs associated with letting me play one of these purchases on every Apple device I own.

Nearly all of these discounted prices are still just too steep to justify. Only a fraction are a really good deal.

Gamers have too many options on other platforms that both offer a bigger selection of games and lower prices, especially during sales.

Well, this would be the launch deal for Valheim, on MacOS.

It’s great that Apple is putting games on sale twice now, because they used to never have sales at all!

Maybe, just maybe, they want these token actions to show the world that they care about “healthy competition” than what people actually interpret from other Apple’s anti-competitive behaviours? Aka PR stunt?

Or maybe Apple in its core still hates gaming on their platforms, allowing freemium mobile games to fester only because of the absurd profit potential. Otherwise it is quite difficult to understand their stubbornness and reluctance in working with the likes of Steam.

So, two separate MAS sales in the past months translates into “Apple still hates gaming”, after decades of offering nothing.

Are you new to Mac/Apple news? If so, I could kind of understand where you’re coming from with your thoughts. Stubbornness and reluctance goes both ways in corporations, so there’s that.

I believe it was about 6 years ago, Apple and Valve did have a good working relationship. Apple had asked Valve for advice on how to get their hardware/software more gamer friendly… but we know how that worked out.

Apple tends to be super slow on the software side, while their hardware guys are now cranking out some amazing tech, when before hardware was lack luster cause they had to wait on Intel and didn’t want to put proper desktop case GPUs in their desktops.

Does anyone game solely on their Mac? I don't really see the point of native macOS games unless you don't have any other gaming platform. You could play most of these games (plus hundreds more) via GeForce Now, Xbox cloud gaming, Playstation Remote Play etc right on your Mac.

This App Store sale is only in reply to the steam sale currently on - the MacOS versions of the games SHOULD be available there too, it is incredibly frustrating that our game library's are forced to be fragmented in such a silly way.

I understand the need for multiple game storefronts such as epic and steam and others but the App Store has ZERO community features and makes owning games there feel terribly lonely and pointless - the Mac versions should be made available on an actual GAME STOREFRONT, not the general purpose App Store or at the very least put the games on both so consumer have an damn choice of where we want to buy our games.

Ikr.. Idk why anyone would buy from the Mac app store when they could buy from steam. Genuinely curious, if anyone knows please comment.

Patiently awaiting the Riven remake. I will probably get it on steam but might consider the App Store. I bought the Myst remake for Mac, and iOS so I will probably do the same for Riven. Such great games that I've played since I was a kid.

Was thinking similar. I can get it on Steam where I can play it on my Mac OR my Windows computer. Or I can get it on the Mac App Store and deal with their terrible interface and be stuck on only the Mac.

I guess if I had only a Mac and nothing else it would make sense. Maybe. But Steam is still better for games.

Just one example, on Steam I can control and see download speed. On the MAS I get...that download indicator circle. That's it.

What I’m more curious about is how often such sale goes on Mac App Store? iirc it is not very often.

Yep. Is this a bunch of devs responding to sales on other platforms or is this Apple? Apple can’t just put stuff on sale. This isn’t a store really.

Many are like thank you Apple for this sale. If that’s true where’s YouTube and the like for Vision Pro? If Apple can make this “sale” happen then that is why it’s on them for a crappy vision os store.

Need chatgpt? Apple made it happen. Money didn’t even change hands according to sources.

Maybe Apple thought they didn’t need Netflix or Google on avp. But then you see them abandoning avp 2. Must be the high price they think. Couldn’t have anything to do with Apple not doing much to breathe any life into it.

Wow. 34,1 GB space required for the Resident Evil game.

Do these games also run decently when launched from external SSDs? I don't think I have enough space on my precious internal drive.

My games are all on an usb 3 connected sata ssd and they run fine. I'm sure they would load faster if they were on the internal drive but yes, space the final frontier.

Unfortunately although you can run Mac App Store games from an external drive you have to move them back to the internal drive for updates. Otherwise App Store doesn't detect them on the external drive. So is the case with RE 4 for example. I haven't tried if cloud save works when a game is on external drive.

Yeah about that. I’m not new to Mac/Apple news and follow as closely as I can. But, I rarely see any sale on Mac App Store of any sort, and I believe many will share the same sentiment with me on this one.

If Apple doesn’t hate gaming, we’d see way more enthusiasm in the gaming world: more ports, more support, better support, more promotion etc.

Gosh, that is really stupid. Would have never guessed that's the case.

You’ll need to offer more than just your repeated claim to fortify that. I’m confident, though, that you’ll be able to provide some evidence or links to that effect.

It’s just that your conditions for what would make things better seem vague and arbitrary.

I do. Occasionally I play only iPhone, 1 or maybe 2 games. That said, I don't play a lot of games.
