ehh

everytime i use airdrop between two iPhones iPads or pods running iOS 7 or 8 and each one has allow everyone enabled it never finds anyone often the devices requires a restart to detect anyone and yes they are all on the same ws network same results in different locations as well

no impressed so far and thats a bummer

I can understand apple requiring certain types of wifi and bluetooth but to not allow us to use adaptors on older hardware is just plain wrong.

I agree. I certainly would like to be able to handoff from my iPhone 5 or iPad Air to my late 2011 MBP. However, I am not going to go buy a new Mac just to be able to have that feature.

The normal consumer wouldn't have updated.....8.0.1 was only out there OTA for about an hour. Most people don't bother updating until they get home from work at the earliest.

Its those of us who jump on every update and know when they are coming that go screwed. And we DO know how to fix it.

But by all means, follow the rest of the group off the cliff......

It was a poor decision to release 8.0.1.....but at this point, there's a relatively simple fix and Apple will have it patched by the end of the week.

Let's all just calm down.

Going to beat a dead horse here... At the end of the day, it should of been QC'd with a finer tooth comb and fixed and/or not released when it was. Simple as that.

its as if people are downloading from some nightly section of ios releases. its freaking auto downloaded on the devices and they even add a painfully obvious badge to indicate you have something to install. and you act as if people with 30 minutes to spare and go ahead are overeager trouble seekers.

your corporate bs excuses might work if this was freeware on a free phone but it isnt

That red badge doesn't appear immediately....nor is it downloaded immediately.

I usually update within 30 minutes of the release....never had it auto download. Never seen the red badge. I also don't sit on WiFi at work so it wouldn't happen anyway (must be connected to WiFi to do it).

Like I said, feel free to follow everyone off the cliff. The overreaction to something that is fixable and has caused a semi-major inconvenience to people is just unreal.

You'd think people's loved ones were killed. It's cell service. A few hours without it didn't and won't kill anyone.

Completely agree. Don't think there's much more to say than this though.

Apple pulled the update within an hour, released a process to fix it for those of us who got it, and are releasing a patch by the end of the week.

Not sure what more can be gained by crucifying them? I guess people just want something to b**** about....

I guess if it makes them feel better....its a free country.

but everyone is not you

perhaps it is an overreaction but its an entitlement world and that goes both ways.

nobody out there was begging apple for an unfinished update.

What do I need? To participate in the AirDrop Test Fest you will need at least two Macs from the following:

- 2012 Mac or later for new AirDrop

- Any Mac for Legacy AirDrop (old Mac to Mac only)

The Macs will need to be running the latest seeded build of OS X Yosemite. If you also want to test with your iPhone or iPad you will need device with a Lightning connector running iOS 7 or iOS 8.

I am bringing my IIfx as my "any Mac".

I've always found the range for AirDrop to be pretty short. With the new iPhone 6 and iOS 8 it seems longer. Anyone else notice that, or am I just imagining it?

For anyone on this "Test Fest," what kind of range are your seeing between your iOS and OS X devices?

Thanks.
