Why not? No one else has cracked it yet either. It's the wild west of smart product vendors and solutions. Now with Matter there's a much better chance to have meaningful consolidation. Apple has always been most successful when they find solutions for pain points. The smart home arena is wide open for that and worth an exploration.

Sure, why not ... No opposition to that.
But because something is "wide open" usually has a reason.

Maybe they'll shock us all and tackle it.

Not holding my breath.
My thoughts exactly 👇

HAHAHAHA
Apple can’t get together an OLED MacBook and now they want to release robots

A $1,000 smartphone is just as pointless as a $500 smartphone if all you do is scroll Instagram.

Let people spend their money on what they find beneficial in their life.

People can spend their money however they want, but the two people I know that spent their money on AVP ended up selling it because they couldn't find a use for it.

One of those two works at Apple Park.

That Apple was able to sell 500,000 of a proof of concept/developer kit product at $3,500 in a burgeoning product category is a problem most major tech companies would love to have. Apple should be judged on what they do next with the Vision OS platform and related products. Sometimes you have to put something out into the world to see what sticks.
Facts!

The fact that they sold over 500,000 at $3,499 in THIS economy is impressive as hell.

The crazy part is, the $499 Quest 3 is estimated to have sold a little over 1 million since it launch.

The sample size appears quite limited. Perhaps conducting some research beforehand would have been beneficial. Ultimately, the lack of a suitable use case rests with them. When making a significant purchase, I always carefully consider the intended purpose and how I plan to utilize the item.

Not everyone is struggling. The people that are were never the target market to begin with.

We know. Thats why Apple priced it at $3,499 and still sold over a half a million. Apple knew they could get away with it. Meta would have been lucky to sell 20,000 of them at $3,499.

Oh great, another stupid product which will never sell, just like Vision Pro. Will someone PLEASE fire Timmy and the entire Executive Team? They are too old to create products people want. Nobody over 45 please.

What products do people want? I'm genuinely curious. The smartphone is literally the biggest human innovation since the printing press, and Apple was hugely instrumental in that.

Would be so fun if Apple collaborated with Disney to use the Pixar lamp shape/personality. Wishful thinking, but in any case whatever Apple comes up with will be cool.

Hands down Apple's best iMac design ever. I am sad to this day that I was in between upgrade cycles and didn't get a chance to purchase one.
Agreed. Unfortunately, Apple went the Jony Ive “thin is all that matters” route in the 2010s, and everything still looks the same (even if not necessarily even thin anymore).

A $1000 cabbage waxer is as useless as a $3499 cabbage waxer.
I used the Vision Pro and would say it is a great product … very useful and innovative. I do think it would be hugely popular if not for the price. I wish I still had it, for one, it was a great personal movie theater experience, but not A bad productivity tool either. Apple should sell it for a loss so it gains traction.

The smartphone? Really? Not, say, the transistor? Or antibiotics? Or flight?
I think you can make an argument for the smartphone as the device that interconnected most of the planet to the larger world and has reshaped the way humans have lived in a more profound way in a shorter amount of time than the other listed inventions. Doesn't take away from how impressive/important the creation of vaccines, air travel, the steam engine, etc., are, but smartphones have truly changed how most humans interact/approach the world.

This! There's ton of room for Apple to shape and build marketshare in the smart home device market, especially if they start making first-party product and have recurring revenue through services in the vein of Ring or SimpliSafe. This makes way more sense as a market for Apple to enter than a car ever would've.
Both are great markets. They are just too late and don’t have anything new and exciting to bring to the table.

Look at carplay ultra. After so many years and so much resources, it’s a piece of shxt and even the car makers don’t want it anymore.

Apple need to accept the fact that they are not special anymore and copy Xiaomi’s home and car line up. Make them premium and integrate with Apple ecosystem well. Those will sell like hot cakes.

This sounds utterly pointless. If Steve were still running the company, it'd never ship and I'd guess he would have killed it years ago when it was apparent there was no real vision.

But he isn't. This is the same Apple that brought us Siri, HomePod, and VisionPro, so you can be sure that they'll ship this nonsense.

(Apple acquired Siri about 18 months before Steve passed, but he never presented Siri, and I doubt we'd be talking about Siri this way today, 14 years later, if Steve had stuck around... they'd either actually improve it, or kill it, but I think most likely it just never would have shipped.)

“…final decisions such as Siri's visual design have not been made.”

They need to sell different heads for this thing like they sell watch bands for the watch…

Like the troll or the little head that Iron bar Massey had in mad max.
