Ok correct me if I wrong, but there’s a scene at 15:32 of the keynote that shows guy using what appears to be a iPad mini with a Apple Pencil! Now since there is no mini that currently has pencil support this has to be one that hasn’t been released yet, are my eyes lying to me or did Apple try to sneak one past us?!?!

It's difficult to tell scale, but that looks like the 10.5 Pro. Assuming that you are referring to the into to augmented reality.

edit:
Here's a screenshot with some reference lines. The yellow line and red line are both the same length. size.png

Sigh, I was hoping it wasn’t a perspective Issue lol a mini with pencil support is My wife’s dream.

I don't think that's a new Mini. If I hold my Mini that way, my thumb covers about 2/3 of the way up the bezel. My thumb covers about half the bezel on the iPP 10.5.

If thats the mini, then that person has really small hands! Lol. Cause when i hold my mini like that, my thumb almost touches the top. I would have loved for that to be true tho.

That does look like a Mini, But New Mini I don't know looks like a Mini 4 to me !!

If the yellow and red line are the same per @sracer then the horizontal width of this tablet is the size of the Apple Pencil. Too small for a 10.3 right?

No way. Relative to the person's hands, assuming they're not freakishly small, that device is too big to be a Mini.

Also, common sense; no current Mini supports the Pencil. They would not just accidentally reveal a product that hasn't even been announced yet in something so deliberately filmed. Revealing products is not something that is taken lightly. Even the rumour of a new release affects sales of current models and even stock prices.

The Mini 4 doesn't support either the Pencil or AR, so it'd be pretty foolish of them to use it even in a fake demonstration that involves those features.

Just the fact that so many people were hoping it was a new ipad mini...underscores that there is a demand for one. As an ipad mini user myself, i too was hoping. But this is clearly an 10.5” ipad pro. I think we will all get our answer this fall about the fate of the ipad mini. If Apple doesn’t announce one in the fall, i think it’s finally safe to assume the ipad mini is being discontinued. Would love to see an ipad mini pro. Would love to at least see an updated mini with apple pencil support. Some are saying if the iphone plus didn’t make the ipad mini obsolete, then the rumored upcoming 6.5” iphone x plus surely will. Personally i don’t agree. I think the ipad mini is not only more portable than any ipad, it’s also arguably more enjoyable & productive to work on than the largest of iPhones. But Apple may not think so. Guess we’ll all find out this fall. I really can’t see Apple keeping the ipad mini in the line up after ios 12 is released if they don’t update it.

I absolutely love the mini form factor. Best size for couch browsing, portability, ebooks, mail and on the go work. The larger phones aren’t the same experience. Aspect ratio does matter.

Someone in a different thread pointed out that if the mini goes edge to edge you get around a 9.7” screen. Conversely if the air loses bezels you get around a 8” screen. Add a pencil and that’s so perfect I’d pay a serious premium. Streamlines the iPads into small medium and large pro. Or small and large if they end up ditching the 10.3 and 12.9 and going with a tweener 11.5. The 329 education iPad remains the SE of the tablets with home button etc.

Heck, forget all the fancy stuff. Update the same bezeled mini with current intervals and add pencil support and I can chuck away all my moleskines.

Let’s see what happens but if they discontinue it , I’m seriously looking at the surface andromeda foldable device. The plan is to go with the largest pro available and add a mini sized tablet for , well, tablet stuff. The 10.5 is the worst of both worlds may as well get different tools perfectly suited for their tasks. One tablet one laptop replacement.

If there was demand for it they would have updated it past few years but they didn't for a reason.

I would like an updated Mini just for dealing with photos. An SD card with over 4000 photos on it took 72 minutes to import on my Mini 4, 13 minutes on my iPP 10.5.
