So if you lease a new Apple Watch and do something like the 12 month plan, then upgrade at the end, do you have to turn in the Apple Watch band as well? I can't find this answer anywhere.

Haven’t seen anything yet. I presume the T&C will be here once released.

“One would think” in-the-box accessories like chargers, cords, watch bands, maybe even keyboards & mice are “disposable.” But if it’s an Hermes watch, the band could be more valuable than the watch itself!

afaik every place that takes AWs for trade-in you have to turn in band nd puck with Apple being the exception. I'd expect the leasing company requiring the same, turn in band and puck.

This may be a bit unrelated but does Apple let you buy a brand new AWU3 for example without a strap? I have a Titanium Milanese Loop I like, so they wouldn't pay for it back in a Trade-In but make me pay for a strap at the same time?

Okay, so I guess the answer is that you have to return the band and it has to be in good condition!

That makes this a horrible way to buy and Apple Watch.

What is Apple going to do with a bunch of smelly, sweat stained, and oily bands that are a year old?

You are neither leasing from Apple nor returning the device to Apple, in both cases it's the leasing company who's name escapes me right now, Apple is merely the facilitator and also records it as a sale.
I think this leasing model is certainly not worth it for an AW nor for an iPhone, a high-end Mac that costs $5k+, I'd do the numbers

The goal of most trade in programs is to reduce the activity on the secondary market.

Apple will shred the bands to encourage sales of new bands.

Plus what if you lose the band or the packaging for it ?

no doubt there will be a lease agreement that will give the answer......but since you'd be leasing, you wouldn't own anything and would likely be required to return everything....they'd probably bill you for the items you didn't return

Is it the same like if y’all got the Apple Watch from a carrier under a monthly contract and you decide not to pay it off and it’s not paid in full?

That sounds like a situation where the watch is actually being purchased and not leased. Carriers can lock a phone if the buyer stops making payments. (The leasing company could obviously do the same if you stopped making your lease payments)

Correct man. I was referring specifically to cellular Apple Watches bought from carriers that r on monthly payments

Like this one my carrier offers for ultra 3 as an example .

T-Mobile is selling you that watch of course.....letting you make payments over time and then you own it. And that's different than leasing it obviously.

Apple will still sell you the watch if you want (one payment or with monthly payments if you prefer)

The new lease program is sort of a variation on software subscription....you never own anything, but you get to use it

Of course. You can also purchase the device and pay it off thru  Upgrade, but lease termination involves a termination fee
