Is this even a permanent campus, or are they just leasing it because they need extra space until their new campus is completed?
The quoted SJ Mercury article clearly uses the word "rent."

Apple is keeping its options open. When the "mothership" campus is completed, Apple will look at existing leases and probably let some of them expire (most likely the smaller facilities that are farther afield). The Results Way campus is a large contiguous piece of commercial property, which makes it quite valuable to Apple; they are leasing a number of buildings on Bubb Road.

The "mothership" campus is not large enough to house all of today's Cupertino employees, and Steve has already said that they will keep occupying 1 Infinite Loop.

I think Steve has a fondness for the Cupertino Apricot Groves since I've heard him mention them many times. Also at the new spaceship they are going to plant hundreds of new Apricot Groves since the spaceship will not occupy a huge footprint on the land since most parking is underground.

Pretty cool to return the land to the state Steve remembers it in while pushing Apple progressively further into the future. I nice dichotomy of old versus new. The idea of innocence replanted next to the realization of a young mans dream in the late 70s.

btw. that leased office space is ugly..ha

There is a lot of available space surrounding Cupertino.

Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and San Jose still have lots of office buildings that have been empty since the dot-com bust in 2001.
And in most cities across the country. Cupertino better not be whining.

"This is all good news for the city," said Kelly Kline, Cupertino's city economic development manager. "Apple is the premier corporation in Cupertino."

Hey Kelly, check the market cap and profits. Apple is the premier corporation in the world. They may run second to some small-time player in oil. ;)

With all this extreme growth lets hope apple continues to sell the way it does. I would hate for them to suddenly start going downhill

Yeah..and with how much they've been changing their products I would hate to see their sales drop, because they are such a great company and hopefully that won't change anytime soon. ;)

Thank you. I was thinking the exact same thing. Based on the number of "Office Space for Rent" signs I see in the Valley, I don't think finding whole buildings even will be a problem.
