Earlier this year, Apple announced plans to build an iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, India, for the purpose of supporting engineering talent within the Apple ecosystem and giving developers tools to "create innovative apps for customers around the world," according to CEO Tim Cook.

A few new details about the development center have emerged today, including news that Apple has leased more than 40,000 square feet of space for the Bengaluru offices.

According to sources speaking with The Economic Times, the new Apple center will cover two floors at Galleria, located in North Bengaluru. The office space Apple is interested in is owned by Standard Brick Tile Company, and includes other companies like Atkins and Comviva as tenants within the building.
Tens of thousands of developers in India make apps for iOS, the mobile operating system that is the foundation for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

The company said Apple's team would work to inspire and instruct developers on best practices, help them hone their skills and transform the design, quality and performance of their apps on the iOS platform
Apple's current plan is to open the new iOS App Design and Development Accelerator sometime in early 2017. The space in Bengaluru will be the second biggest of Apple's facilities in India, following the company's proposed 250,000 square foot campus in Hyderabad. That location will be the focus of developments in Apple Maps, with up to 4,000 employees expected to be hired at the site, which will cost the company $25 million to build.

Come on guys, it's neither "square feet" in India nor in most of the rest of the world.

"Actually" it's 3700 square meters.

Which I find not too much.

I just hope they don't use a single square foot of this building in India as a customer service call center...
That will probably happen soon enough. Just like in Europe. Apple developer support is already in a bunch of countries and provides after hours support to the US. Once they have a good base in India they will likely put in developer support. Once the user base grows to a certain point they will likely put in a full AppleCare support center. Likley they will reduce the amount of the Apple-At-Home advisors, for this country (US), and route people to Europe for the after hours US support and local India support. If I am honest I would rather talk to India for support than some of these At-Home-Advisors...they are very hit or miss. Most have no idea what is going on. I have gotten a few good ones...but not many.

As Apple grows into India it is only a matter of time before you start talking directly to India. Though at least they won't tell you their name is "Bob". Apple is at least a bit more classy. But I wouldn't get used to the idea of not talking to India for support.

I swear if I see that guy's face one more time, I'm gonna go ballistic. Tim Cook is a disgrace to Apple.

Now Tim is gonna kick those employees out of the quik-e-mart stores.
"Thank you, come again!"

I'm all for giving them more jobs, but please, no tech support... Indians supposedly speak English, but very often Indian English is very hard for the rest of the world to understand, especially if the phones in the call center aren't very good. It never goes over well in the end...
