I am interested in purchasing the apple leather case but have read a lot of reviews online saying that the leather case scratches the side metal frame of iPhone 13 pro and pro max as they are polished stainless steel and these scuff marks are very visible.

Can anyone shed a light on this?

why are you worries about "scratches" on the frame when that frame is entirely covered by said case?
I've had Apple leather cases on my iPhones for 10 or so years, never noticed, nor ever looked for these "scratches"

I guess I must be lucky because the case does not scratch my phone and I've had mine for quite long time. I take good care of my phone and so far there are no scratches under any lights. So Not all case scratches. Only reason why case could scratch the phone is if any dust or foreign objects might have gotten without being noticed and you put the phone in the case.

At the time of reselling to exchange for a new iPhone it gives better value if you keep your phone in a good condition. That’s the only reason.

All cases scratch an iPhone. There is no true scratch-proof case. I have the silicone case from Apple, and scratches still developed.
I also use the apple silicone case, on the contrary’s that’s the only case that doesn’t scratch the phone as their is microfibre lining on the sides as well. But it’s a lint magnet and I have got fed up of wiping the screen.

That lint that gets in the micro-fiber attracts also dust particles which do scratch your phone. Several threads here document that.

My 12 Pro has micro scratches that you can see under direct sun and it has been since day 1 inside it's silicone case.

Oh, okay. That makes sense. Guess I have been lucky in that sense.

That happens because dirt gets in the case and between it and the phone. That’s normal and happens with basically all normal cases. However, if you clean the phone and the case regularly that will reduce the scuffing.

Yup. That micro-lint kills the finish.
Funny looking at older iPhones from the time it was very common people had cases with a cutout for the . Looking at them now without their cases there’s often a ring of dirty scuffs around it, bet they didn’t expect that. In general I think it’s somewhat entertaining thinking about people babying their iPhone, putting it in a clunky and ugly case the hour they get it, never get it out and then one day realise how dust scratched their phone all the time while they thought it would remain pristine.

Some dust can be as abrasive as sandpaper.
Keep the phone clean, and clean the interior of the case regularly with a very soft brush and blow it out with compressed air.
