Hi

This is my first venture with the leather loop, that I will be picking up at the Apple Store.

With the ML or the sport loop. I wear the loop lug on the bottom. All the pictures of the leather loop show the short part on top, which is opposite to what I am accustomed to. Is the short part on top necessary for thr band to function properly?

It will work either way, but the "correct" way (as pictured by Apple) for the leather loops is with short piece on top.
With the Milanese and Sport/Nike loops, the Apple-way is with the loop lug on the bottom.

But, that said, it's your watch -- wear however is most comfortable for you.

Will the magnets be adversely effected if I put the short part on the bottom?

nope.. i wear the short part down, cos i'm used to the same styling as the sport loops, where the tongue is away from me.. works well :)

I also wear the short end on the bottom because, for me it’s easier to cinch it snug to my wrist. I think it looks better on top.

This. Plus, I don't like seeing the flap (I can just barely see it when the short part is on top, and it annoys me) ... lol

It's much easier to put on with the short end down as I have to completely undo it when putting it on, but it looks better with the short end up.

It does not matter, it is just a question of individual preference

Since I was/am unsure whether the leather loop or sport loop is right for me, I cancelled my initial order and decided to wait until the extended holiday return period started. Will be picking up both bands tomorrow. Time will tell about wrist rashes and dexterity issues. That is why I waited for the extended holiday return period.

do you have any feedback on them yet? Never really got on with the sport loop but I'm considering getting a leather loop, just haven't decided if its worth the cost yet!

The price has dropped $50 this year. I jumped on the brown leather loop. Last year I paid $150 for the black LL.

I like the leather loop. When I got mine I lathered on some of that Apple Leather Conditioner. really nice now.

Club short end down. I don't like seeing the band wrapping around when I look down at the watch. I think it looks much better that way.

True but (probably) from Apple's thinking they would observe from the audience's perspective. Looking toward you, seeing the shiny buckle :)
