Wouldn't that kill sales of iPhones leading up to the "pre-announced" iPhone? That just seems like a foolish business decision. If it was Samsung on the other hand...
No. Apple releases an updated iPhone every year. People who don't know that already aren't going to be paying attention to the announcement. People who do know and care aren't going to be buying iPhones after March.

Maybe you really are saying that you are waiting until March to buy the iPhone 7, because you really want it, but if you find out Apple will have a new iPhone in September you probably won't do it. If so, I have news for you. Apple will probably be releasing a new iPhone in September. The iPhone 7 won't be the last model Apple makes.

Update: Shortly after we published this article, Apple was removed from the list of exhibitors.

Thanks, Macrumors!

Eventually even the most successful of companies do have to get off their complacent backsides and champion for more business.
Nonsense. Apple has more revenue and profit than they can sensibly spend. It doesn't need any of this.
If this turns out to be a misunderstanding by one of the MWC salespeople who reserved a spot because they misunderstood Apple's 'No', I would not be surprised.

Macrumours should have left away the update for another 24 hours, would have made for a good bunch of amusing comments.

So you are saying that my general statement is nonsense? Once successful, a company never ever again needs to champion for more business?

You clearly do not understand the stockmarket nor what shareholder expectations are. No matter how unrealistic, they want to see %age increases year on year and chunky dividend payouts. It has nothing to do with how much a company "can sensibly spend".

But why at MWC? Apple's business is with consumers, who don't attend MWC.

The stock market is a crazy place but I'm sure that, like in the real world, high prices are good when you are selling, low prices are good when you are buying.

Apple is buying.

So is this a manipulation to make Apple look desperate to make the price go down so Apple can get more AAPL cheap?

What could sort of make sense a bit for being in the "App Planet" section, is that apple show their App Production tools, and maybe scare more of people that tell engineers what to do away from the Xamarins, Senchas and Cordovas. So as not to have quite as many mediocre and junk apps in the AppStore.

It's a desperate move something they should have been doing from the beginning. They feel the heat and pressure from competitors and probably won't have something new to show.

Lol, I'm pretty sure that's an either/or.
Not sure how something could be "desperate" (implying it's a bad idea), and at the same time "something they should have been doing from the beginning (implying it's a great idea).

Desperate?

Keep dreaming, dude, Apple is still #1, even farther now that Samsung took the largest hit since Apple just decided to make "big" screens...

These Android fanboys... live in a world apart just because ANAList tell them that Android sells so many handsets...

I wish everyone tries to look over the fence from time to time and will make a fair comparison.

At first Apple didn't feel the need to exhibit at the mobile world congres at all. Now they suddenly do. At first they were far ahead of there competitors. Right now they scramble to keep up and are getting behind on many levels.
