blah ba blah ba blah. What about the gs4 did apple copy? there see already nonsense. Also this is a rumor. Nobody even knows if this acquisition is fact, actually there's doubt about it expressed in the article. Second, Apple has a way of making things actually useful instead of producing half-assed features nobody wants which is what samsung does.

Maps, Siri. That about wraps up the last 2 years of quality ground breaking tech.

Maps a complete embarrassment and has not gotten much better in most of the US and a few select cities around the world.

Siri is slow not intelligent, poorly implemented "personal assistant".
It takes her longer to give an answer than typing out the question in google.

And please stop with the Blah, blah, blah. You're sounding like Siri trying to be a sheep.

Journalist delusion based on unverified and twisted hints,” the source added, also questioning the valuation: “280M? Come on! We’re worth 10 times that. :)

Either it's not going to happen or it's just going to take some more cash :D

Unless they can shrink their tech so it's fits inside the iMac case next to the camera then I don't see the point. Hope this is not true for several reasons.

If you hate apple this much why are you on this forum. That's what doesn't make sense to me. That's why you are obviously a troll. If you hate Apple, and still use this forum, you only do so to tell people about how bad Apple is. Don't come here and go flame Apple on the million other forums there about other companies.

this is wonderful. kinect is a great technology, I wonder why they (apple) rejected the idea back in 2010.

They may have rejected in the 2008, because they didn't understand a great way to apply the technology. Most of the game-changing technologies are pioneered years or decades in advanced before the right situation or conditions comes along to apply them.

Apply them poorly, or apply them before the market ready, or apply them before other dependent technologies or conditions are ready and the technology will not be game changer. (touch screen/gesture, mouse, voice control are examples).

In general, it's not only the tech that matters - the how, when, and why (the problem you are trying fix) are just as important. I think this is where most companies fail - great tech but poor, immature application of the tech and poor 'bring to market' strategy.

.

Sad. They copied Android and Jony Ive ruined it by making it pastel now their going straight to the Kinect source to purchase their technology.

Can't innovate my ass, but can turn on the copy machines and keep them running 24/7.

Copied andriod???

That is funny......

----------

This is another example of how Apple's competitors are stupid and naive.

Microsoft worked with this company to produce Kinect, which is a novel and unique way to interact with a TV/Console that other companies do not have. Sony needs a bright orb to work with 3D motion sensing, and Nintendo needs a wand, but Kinect requires no special attachment or device to use. It's something that set Microsoft apart from their competitors.

So why on earth would Microsoft not protect themselves by purchasing this company?

What boggles my mind is that every competitor, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung, they ALL know how litigious Apple is and how much Apple loves to acquire patents. While I cannot blame Apple for seeing an opportunity and taking advantage of it, I simply do not understand how the competition is not protecting themselves more. I guarantee that before the year is over Apple will make a move to either sue competitors that have motion control (i.e. Samsung's hand waiving stuff), or jack up their licensing for use of patents now owned by Apple. Apple may not make a single product that uses motion control, but now gets rich because of other companies making innovative products have to pay them for it.

Someone at Microsoft just woke up this morning and slapped their forehead for being stupid not to protect their Kinect technology better. Even for Microsoft, the few hundred million is a drop in the bucket to ensure their Xbox products continue to have no direct competition in the market.

Or do what MS did and spend nothing and still don't and any direct competition for the xbox.

He shook his head. Why didn’t he want to do a deal with Apple? No need. The technology was hot. He could sell it to anyone.

And 5 years later he still tries to sell it to Apple...
So hot)

MS developed their own tech for Kinect 2

That's the answer. MS didn't need this company anymore so one might say Apple is apparently buying a MS reject. Nothing particularly wrong with that- maybe Apple is buying them for the talent or some of the patents or something. But all these "MS slapping their heads" and "I can't believe MS didn't lock them up" (etc., lump them all as "how stupid is MS" in various forms) posts are completely missing the reality of the situation. If we want to imagine MS as evil, etc, think of it like this: MS has used up this collaborative opportunity and are now cutting them loose. Apple might be riding in with a white hat on to save this "poor" company. Does that make us all feel better?

And 5 years later he still tries to sell it to Apple... So hot)

Right. Because both parties- MS and this company- got what they wanted out of each other with Kinect 1. MS doesn't need them anymore. So time to sell to another company. Apple is stepping up as potential buyer.

I just wish they added 3D screens and videoconferencing to their devices.
With cameras hidden behind the screen so that we can talk to people while watching them in the eyes.

Is there a reason why companies such as Apple and Google "Acquire" companies instead of using them/working with them.

It seems very wasteful to Acquire a company and absorb everything from within.

Patents. Buy them and you own their patents. This apparently gives the legal team something to do when anyone else tries to do something remotely similar to the patents you now own. Even if it's not THAT similar, it just needs to be close enough. Giving the legal guys something to do is very, VERY important in modern tech giants. Apparently, the more (things to do), the merrier.

Sometimes, they want to absorb the talent instead of having outsourcing arrangements. Absorb the talent and that talent is obligated to live within the corporate rules. Outsource relationships allows the talent to live by their own rules. This is apparently valuable when- say- a company wants to "double down" on security, etc. Outsiders might spill the beans while insiders can be executed for such spills... and their little dog too.

Too little, too late. Watch Google or Microsoft swoop in and steal this from Apple who is too cheap to pay what it takes to acquire technology that it can no longer develop in-house.

They should merge with Oculus (Rift) and remain independent of any particular platform! I can dream.

I'm not sure Primesense has a valuation "10X that" but I agree $280,000,000 is far too low. Hell they've made their own acquisitions worth more than that.

Your emotions are blinding you from the facts.

What can you tell me about Calcalist as an employer? Are they worth working for? What are their compensation packages like?

Or your post is extremely ignorant. It says right there in the article, Apple denies the rumor, so I guess I'm right and your facts are nothing more than flaming b.s. Also the site name doesn't same flameapple.com. I don't like people creating accounts and sticking around here just to bash Apple at every rumor. Literally every rumor. With no substantiated facts at all.
