Apple may consider shifting even more of its iPhone production balance towards the iPhone 6 Plus due to higher than expected demand for the larger phone in China, reports Digitimes. The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus launched in China last Friday following a successful week of pre-orders, as the report notes that consumers have shown a strong preference for the larger device.
As a result, Apple may be forced to shift more production capacity to the 5.5-inch model, said the sources, adding that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus supply ratio is likely to change to 55:45 from 70:30 or 65:35 set originally.

Earlier this month, it was also reported that Apple was looking to shift iPhone production balance towards the iPhone 6, while another report claimed that the iPhone 6 Plus may event account for up to 60 percent of total future iPhone 6 device shipments.

During yesterday's Q4 2014 earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that demand for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus was "far outstripping" supply despite a satisfactory production ramp-up. Supplies for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have remained tight since the launch of both devices last month, as new iPhone 6 orders still show a shipping estimate of 7-10 business days while the iPhone 6 Plus is still showing a shipping delay of 3-4 weeks.

I know "to each his own", but as someone who thinks the smaller iPhone 6 is bordering on almost too large for my tastes, I am stunned at the popularity of the Plus model. I also understand that we're using these devices less as phones these days as well, but on the occasions that you do use them as phones, I think you look ridiculous with this cookie sheet next to your face.

Dunno what's worst , cookie sheet or huge cans over ears .

Already got mine... so no longer angry :D Then again, not American.

Took 3 weeks here in my area to get one from the APPLE store, off the shelf. However, it's funny, how they have been totally sold out since pre-order day and now that CHINA has a HIGH DEMAND, they are finally ramping up production. Really?

Also, this was the best thing apple could have done with the 6 and 6+, made them bigger. If Samsung showed apple anything over the past few years, that everyone wants the bigger phone. iPhone 6 & 6+ sales have proven that, even if the OS layout is 7+ years old.

I think in alot of countries, your phone is your one computer (tablet as well) and when viewed from that angle, large, somewhat unweildy phones might make more sense....

As Tim was saying yesterday though - Apple has no extra capacity on the 6 production lines, they are selling everything they are making in both models:

The basic interface of a computer is 30+ years old.
The basic layout of a car is thousands of years old.
The basic design of human being is millions of years old.

You don't need a triangular wheel to make a great modern car.

I have used a Plus since late September and it has been a very great experience so far in this month. Large screen with high PPI and accurate color, and the battery life is crazy on this thing. The problem is that this phone has made me use my iPad mini 2 (LTE) much less.

That is what I am hoping for. Once I finally open mine that I got on 9/20 that is. I just rely on a jailbreak so its semi-useless at this point.

I bought the 6 plus and sold my 4S and iPad Air. So far (about a month), I have found the 6+ to be an acceptable replacement for the Air. I like having only one device to carry around and contain all of my apps/data/etc.
