Awesome!

Now tell carriers there that they can't sell iPhone's in Mexico anymore and let them cross the border to buy in the US.

A few days later you'll see the carriers going crazy about it and it gets solved... somehow... =p

*ahem*Cisco*ahem* ;)

This would be a proper example of prior art coming into play and prevailing; something the USPTO should take notes on.

Motorola had a series of phones with the preface "i" back in the early 90s

Before Cisco.

Cisco had iOS on their hardware as early as 1994. I can't remember if Motorola had anything on mobile phones back then.. If so, they were the huge bricks that required a briefcase..

I couldn't find a source for 1994. If you have one I'd love to see it. Motorola dates back to 1996. And the phone was not at all a suitcase phone nor HUGE brick.

Motorola had iDEN in 1994. Actually the system was started before that but was rename iDEN in 1994. It was the system used by Nextel.

On one hand Apple started the whole 'i' thing; but iFone was started in 2003 here.....so Apple is technically wrong and should have lost this case.

That has been disproved on many occasions. Apple did start to apply it to an ever increasing number of products whenever possible, but Cisco had an iphone. There is a brand known as iTV in the UK. They aren't the only one. They weren't the first. I'm just not aware of any other brand that has applied it as a prefix to so many products.

Wasn't the massive phone thing more 1980s than 1990s like when they had to hardwire into your car?

Yes - the 80s. Although the early 90s saw a combination of both. But the "car phones" while needing mounting weren't the behemoths they were in the 80s

Having worked on both I can say that Moto had the IDEN/iDEN system as early as 1994, perhaps earlier and Cisco had iOS 10 in 1993, perhaps earlier.

Sure. Link

iOS was released late 1994. First vulnerability for version 1.0 came out June 1995.

Isn't it spelt differently enough?

From a legal standpoint, it's whether they can be confused with each other that matters. Similarity in spelling, pronunciation, industry, etc. all come into play and usually more than one is required to have a case.

Giving up Mexico (and Brazil as others have argued too) to Android is a really good business decision.

It's a good thing that you're not the CEO of Apple.

Greatest cell network ever, best call quality un-imagineable awesome walkie talkie, where else could you press a button and 2-way radio someone from Chicago to Sao Palo with no lag and no wait. Too bad after 911 Dubya Bush dismantled iDEN, and Nextel for that matter. No other phone network even comes close to the call reliability/quality.

Good. Apple needs to chill. They want world domination over any name that resembles Apple or their products. "Doesn't impact the ability to sell the iPhone or related services in the country", seriously Apple chill, bro!

I don't think "iPhone" works in Spanish, so it's "iFone".

I remember being amazed at bag phones, and how small and portable they were. Like a car phone, but you could actually carry it around! :boggle:

1 billion pesos settlement

or 20 dollars, whichever is greater

right, because if you had any idea of the real value of a mexican peso you would know that 1 billion pesos is a bit more than 80 million US dollars...
