I agree. On this site you seem to have a lot of either/or extremes....Apple is either the best or it sucks...and if you say it sucks you are labeled a "troll" because that is a convenient way to dismiss anyone who doesn't love Apple.
I've noticed that too.

…and if you say it's the best, you are labeled a "fanboy" because that is a convenient way to dismiss anyone who loves Apple.

While kool-aid drinking Mac fans are brainwashed into believing that the extra money they spend on their toys buys them superior hardware, what the figures actually show is that their machines are less reliable than gear made by Asus, Toshiba and Sony.

Hard to take this article very seriously with a statement like that.

Personally, I never really thought my MacBook Pro was very reliable. The bottom doesn't feel very protected at all. So I guess I just won't drop it.

Well anyone at an extreme is unreasonable. The only reasonable position is that Apple is as fallible and imperfect as any other electronics/software company...hating or loving them is weird.

People who have emotional reactions to someone saying something less than glowing about a brand they own are not reasonable. You can like your experience with them but there ARE people who have had very bad experiences with their quality and service. "Fanboys" are the ones who say "well I never had a problem so its just you" or "Apple is still better!" etc.

What service makes up for faulty quality

What is this customer service you say?

I have a dead pixel and dust trapped under the screen
and get blown off when I called applecare about it.

On an 8 month old 17 umbp

I hear people claim a certain number of dead pixels is acceptable...well guess what manufacturers not to me. I pay for a machine that has no defects and even a single pixel bad IS a defect. I hear you on AppleCare as I have had really bad experiences. The front line folks seem great or at least those I have talked to...but the decision makers have been jerks and smug ones at that.

Why didn't you get it replaced within the first 14 days? They ask no questions then..

It's Nick Farrell. Once you read "Nick Farrell" and "Apple", there is no reason to read anything else.

Looks like he makes his living that way, huh?

If he was balanced then it would be fair enough, but the only articles he seems to write about Apple are terribly negative.

I think the figures speak for themselves, without need for the spin.

They looked at 30,000 computers. Out of the millions of computers that Apple sells, 540 failed more often than the number one pc maker on the list. Inconsequential if you ask me. We dont even know how their data was collected and if it was done properly. I am pretty this was not a double blinded scientific study. I will take that 1.8% risk for the superior design, functionality, customer support and OS. I put up with Windows POS software for way too long.
