Parents aren't giving their kids AirTags to play with. Kids get ahold of them through whatever they're attached to. What's something people attach AirTags to? Keys.

If you've ever had a kid, you'd know kids love to play with keys. Some parents who are exhausted from working and taking care of the child can easily forget/overlook that AirTag on the keyring.
Putting that warning on them isn't going to prevent this.

I’m expecting 2nd gen AirTags to be harder to open for kids and by accident. I’d say they’re already *pretty* hard, but it could be improved.

I miss the days when we did not have to do things like this. The owner's manual for my first vehicle taught you how to gap the points in the distributor; modern car owner's manuals tell you not to drink the contents of the battery.

Single-use coin cells are a danger to kids and pets, it’s a pain to have to change them, and they’re not great for the environment.

Would be great to see Apple release a wirelessly rechargeable AirTag in the future, perhaps using the Apple Watch charger.

Only in the U.S.: A 21st century act that prohibits feeding your kids with coin cell batteries

Also in the U.S.: Ability to buy a rifle and a coffee at the same place.

I knew how deadly those batteries are and was super disappointed Apple put them in there. Even if you discover the toddler has swallowed it & get them to the emergency room and get the tag out, it can still kill them. If you use AirTags, get the case that runs them off double AA's. 🍸🐈

The funny fact is that devices that could be used for stalking have been sold for many years, and nobody complained about it.
Now that there's people using their AirTags to stalk, it's Apple's fault. By the same principle, sue the gun manufacturers because some people use them to kill.
Gun manufacturers? Pfft, how passé. It’s F-150s and Cybertrucks that kill people these days. Have you heard of it? Time to ban trucks and make truck manufacturers liable for any carnage committed by the drivers. 🚚

And a rechargable one is e-waste after it can't hold a charge. Which is about 10-15 years. I'd 100% rather have replacable batteries.

Sure. But what's worse? A single-use battery that only lasts a year, so you buy and throw away 15 of them over the lifetime of the product? Or one battery that lasts for 15 years?

In all likelihood an AirTag bought today will be obsolete and thrown out by the 15 year mark anyway, regardless of what battery type.

The bitter coating has to be sanded off before use in the airtag or else there is no reliable circuit.
I use a different brand to avoid this faff.
No, you can wipe it off with an alcohol pad and then dry it. Works fine in an AirTag.

Yup. That's how stupid we've become. Need signs on everything. People now are just coming up from the moron level. . .sad.

I was at a Lego Store today and notice a set that had a massive warning label plastered to the front that I thought was a little over the top. I read it closer and saw that the set had some light-up thing and included a coin sized battery and that's what the warning was for. Looks like it's for the same reason.

It’s not easy for a baby or even a toddler to take out the battery in the AirTag. I imagine it’s more likely for a baby to put the AirTag in the mouth than take out the battery. That said it’s about time the AirTag comes with built in rechargeable battery.
