My Apple Magic mouse - Model No. A1296 3Vdc use to work just fine on my white desk and now, there's no response. I HAVE to have a semi-glossy surface (like a kid's book) for it to track. I have reset the mouse, even dropped it, banged it (as suggested in the iFixit form) but nothing seems to fix the issue. Cleaned the optical sensor thoroughly but still no luck. The mouse works, but just on a glossy surface. That was never the case before. Is there a fix for this or do I really have to go out and buy a shiny metallic mouse pad (same material as MacBook) in order for it works? Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? Thanks guys!

Sounds like the mouse’s sensor is failing.

So it works on shiny glossy material, works on macbook surface. If the sensor was failing, would it work on these surfaces?

Will the mouse track properly on a plain sheet of paper? (Cheaper than a mouse pad, if it helps)
So it only works on shiny glossy material, works on macbook surface. It does not work on a plain sheet of paper.

Possibly -- if the light it's producing isn't as bright as it used to be, it may begin to fail on non-reflective surfaces.

Yes, if the sensor is failing it may simply still be powerful enough to work on some surfaces.

Thank you. Any suggestions on how to fix or possibly replace the sensor myself? Like iFixit or something?
