Hi

My 60W magsafe adapter 'died' the other day... Was warm, but no light.

Tried using my Mum's 80W,and it worked fine with it.
So i used my mum's 80W 'till a new one arrived..

New one arrived, (yesterday) plugged it in, worked fine, until earlier, same problem occurs, no light, still warm...

What the hell's going on !! ?

Could it be a problem with the wiring/electricals in my house??...

'Cause I can't keep going on replacing these adapters 'cause they're bloody expensive (even on eBay!!!)

Thanks 🙂

More likely it's something with the power management on your Macbook if two adapters died. Do the adapters work on your mothers' machine?

If the problem is not solved by resetting the SMC, I would swap the 2 prong with the 3 prong end of the brick, unless you've already tried that and there is no difference. You would at that point want to see if the outlets in the house are properly grounded, or connect the adapters to a surge protector/uninterruptible power supply (UPS for short) and see if it dies on you a few months down the line.

Sorry, i forgot to add, im in the uk. So we have diferent plugs.
And I've also tried using a surge protected power supply, and still no life! [🙁]

The 60W Magsafes will "work" with your mothers MacBook Pro - they will run the machine if the battery is full and the led goes green If the MBP is off it will charge the battery if it is flat. It won't do both at once.

So if neither of your 60W Magsafes work with the MBP they are both dead.

You mentioned eBay - are these genuine Magsafes or Chinese copies ?

Either way return the one you just bought to whoever you bought it from.

If your mothers 85W charger still works with your MacBook then buy another 85W for your mother - but make it a 100% genuine one.
