HELP!!!!

I know this has been asked, and I've googled for solutions a lot, but can't seem to find a solutions.

It seems items that show up in my Junk box are always marked unread. And for some reason it drives me nuts.

Anyone else have this problem and a solution that works?

thanks.

Junk should not be showing up as read.....

Only Mac Mail has this issue, no other email application either on my home or work (apple or windows) has this problem.

Since High Sierra: I have no preferences any more, inbox of all the emails I did nothing with....gone....but...how about all those great emojis?

[doublepost=1510855502][/doublepost]In my opinion, there are problems between Apple Mail and the AOL IMAP servers. I don't see the same problems when using Thunderbird as the client. Apple claims its an AOL problem and AOL claims its doing things correctly. On confusing aspect of his is that in my case, the AOL mail server does a scan for junk and places those it thinks as junk in it's own IMAP folder on the server. Then when there is a sync, Apple Mail does it's own scan for junk. In other words, two separate systems are doing separate scans for junk. Then to modify the junk settings, you need to make sure you modify them on the appropriate system. This is very annoying and time consuming. Apple and AOL use the terms junk and spam in different. This results in preferences for where to put the stuff not being followed. Perhaps this part of the problem is because I haven't figured which system is which yet.
I suggest you state your question again but add information on what server you're using and whether it's POP or IMAP.

Which is it that upsets you, read or unread?
My bad, it should be clear.... UNREAD

For me, iCloud and Mac mail, always results in spam showing up unread.

Any other email client, it will show up read.

Junk mail should always be marked as unread, otherwise you will be telling the sender that you opened the email and confirming that your email is valid.

Absolutely not! When receiving mail, your client does you a favor of sorting the junk. There’s no reason, once it’s in a junk folder and especially if “trained” to not mark it read. There is nothing here related to the sender.

I finally fixed my apple mail issues with H.Sierra....I logged out....then logged in with a test user I created..I found everything was fine as a test user...then I logged out and went back to my original user and it all fixed itself? Amazing.
