For some reason or another Apple mail will not accept my log in credentials any more.
Still works fine on my Intel systems but not on any of my 3 PPC units.
Anyone familiar with this odd behavior?

Wasn't this issued already here before. I remember some months ago mentioning it and it was due to the two-factor authentication?
Yeah, if you have 2FA enabled you need to generate an app password for the email account.

Iirc Apple switched all users to 2FA
That doesn't explain why it is when I start looking at generating an app specific password for apple mail, the first thing that pops up is a message telling me I need to enable 2FA, which is when I stop the process.
Plus this is only affecting a couple of older PPC systems, none of my relatively newer Intel macs are giving me any problems. Also I still log into my iCloud account with a simple email address and password, same as I have for several years now.
If I understood the letter Apple sent out in June correctly, they said 2FA would be enabled for those using 3rd party applications (not Apple) to access their icloud data.

You need to enable two-factor authentication and then create passwords to use Mail on Leopard and Tiger.
Sounds like a plan, anyone care to point me to a "how to do this link" or offer a step by step on how to get my mail back on my PPC units?

That is the page for Two-Factor Authentication. You'll have to set it up for your account, then the part about "Generating App-Specific Passwords" is what you need to do for using Mail on a PowerPC Mac with iCloud.
