Apple Mail - Number of messages to display

Is there anyway to control how many messages my inbox will display in Apple Mail? I'm using IMAP with Gmail and have three accounts set up. My main one has 20,000 messages from the past several years. I'd like it to simply display the last 200 messages (read or not) from my inbox in Gmail. Similar to the iPhone (displays 25, I've up'd it to 50)?

I don't know of a way to limit the messages. However, you could archive all of the messages (or move them to "All mail") and then only keep the new messages in your inbox. Your old messages will still be searchable and immediately available by going to the All mail folder.

You could create a smart mailbox that shows messages since a certain date.
