When I open apple mail it seems to load fine but now my trash icon for apple mail is gone. Is there any way to get this back?

One thing to try is this:

Quit Mail if it's open.

Go to your Library folder (click the "home" icon in the sidebar on a Finder window, open up the Library folder there).

Find the Mail folder. Create a safe copy of it first by right-clicking on it, then selecting "Create Archive of 'Mail'". This will create Mail.zip, which contains all of your mail.

Now that it's safe, rename your Mail folder to Mail2 (or anything different than "Mail").

Restart Mail.

Let it load the mail it knows about.

Go to File->"Import Mailboxes", choose "Mail for Mac OS X", then choose that folder you renamed.

This should fix things.

If not, quit Mail, delete the Mail folder, and unzip the Mail.zip file.

Is it only the icon gone, or is there no sign (text) of the Trash at all? Have you got any theme changers installed? If you delete something, does it pop back up? In Mail, if you press COMMAND-I, a list should come up with your Account info. Is Trash listed there? :)

Mail Trash Icon

I got my Trash icon back by tossing the apple mail plist preference. It is in User>Library>preferences. Make sure you have saved all your mail settings in the mail prefs pulldown menu because you will need to reset at least part of your mail settings. When you open apple mail it will prompt you to set up mail. Once you trash the plist pref and close and open Mail the pref will be put back in the list.

Thanks!!!

This worked for me! You're my hero and saved me from pulling all my hair out. I NEVER had a trash icon and was wondering where the email was going when it was deleted. Y'all always have the answers here.

Neither method works for me.

I have also lost the trash bin icon (and cannot remember deleting it). Incidentally, the drafts folder is also missing.

Neither of the methods described above have restored the icon. I am using Snow Leopard on MacPro Intel machine. On my Notebook, MacBook Pro, the icon is still present.

I use iDisk to back up the e-mail, so I am wondering if there is some kind of remote preference file that prevents me getting the icon back on my desktop machine. This is helpful, as I do not need to import from the saved archive file; the e-mail comes in automatically from iDisk when I start up the application.

Any suggestions on hos to get the trash icon back?

Restore 'Trash' icon in mail

This worked for me after trying numerous others:

In mail application, click on: mailbox> go to> trash. that should resolve your issue.:D
