Hi,

I have a 15" RMBP operating under 10.9.3. I use Apple Mail for my Gmail accounts. Whenever I get junk in Gmail accounts I am unable to permanently delete the junk mail. I can delete the junk mail. However, they junk mail just reappears.

How do I permanently delete my junk mail?

Don

Apple mail is notorious for having issues with gmail. Probably not the solution you are looking for but I would look for an alternative mail client.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your reply. Yet, how difficult can it be. I wonder how well GMail fairs with Outlook?

this is a new issue I've just noticed has surfaced since one of the mavericks updates.

Previously, if you deleted junk, it went to the trash.

Now there's no trash in mail, and it just stays in junk grayed out (you have to log into gmail and manually clear the spam folder.)

not good.

I have gmail set up with Outlook for Mac with no issues. Sorry I couldn't be more constructive with my Apple Mail advice but as I had heard about potential problems for some users I never bothered to try it.

Hi Brian,

Understand. How do I confirm in Google Mail that the All Mail folder is set to show in IMAP at Google.

Far as I can tell, there is only one place to make settings changes for IMAP that is in the Forwarding and POP/IMAP setting set in Google Mail. Where is the reference to the All Mail folder set to show in IMAP?

Cheers,

Don Barar

Hi Brian,

OK. I see that under the labels menu. The All Mail folder for "Show in Label" is blue (not sure if it should be blue or black to be selected) and the Show in IMAP box has been checked. Are these the correct settings?

I periodically go into Gmail (and Yahoo mail) and manually delete everything. It's lame but it works. Someday Apple Mail will get fixed and this won't be necessary.

How about adjusting this setting to your liking?

What finally worked for me... I logged into my gmail... deleted all junk and trash... then in my apple mail client >right click on the google folder>Synchronize Google
