Apple is making it easier for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users in the U.S. to donate towards wildfire recovery efforts in the Los Angeles, California area.

Apple has added an American Red Cross donation flow to the App Store and Apple Music apps.

"Our hearts go out to all impacted by the ongoing devastation in LA," said Apple CEO Tim Cook, in a social media post today. "In addition to Apple's donation, we're making it easy to support recovery efforts. If you're in the US, just open the App Store or Apple Music & click to donate to help make a difference." He also shared a direct link to the donation flow.

Last week, Apple said it would be making its own donation towards recovery efforts on the ground. Apple frequently donates towards recovery efforts following natural disasters around the world, but it typically does not disclose the donation amount.

I’m sure the Red Cross does great things. But if you really want to make an immediate impact, and you live near the area, find an organization where you can donate food and water and clothing to. Try to get physical basic commodities to people as quickly as possible. Of course if that’s not an option, donate money if you want.

I know Apple donated money to relief efforts for Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and that's good, but it sure would have been nice if they had also done this for those hurricanes. There are still a few thousand people in North Carolina who are still completely homeless as a result of Helene and who were on the verge of being thrown out of hotels by FEMA last week in the midst of freezing cold temperatures and snow before they received a temporary extension.

OR……

You can donate directly through American Red Cross. Donating via iTunes Store method will not qualify for any tax deduction even if you get receipt.

I hear you, and I agree. But these wildfires are probably going to cost at least double of both those hurricanes combined. Not to downplay those hurricanes, the damage in North Carolina was devastating.

This is a myth. If you’re referring to the line “this donation may not qualify for any tax deduction or other tax benefits”, they say that because you only get a tax deduction if the donation is $250 or more. If it’s below that, you don’t get a deduction. This goes for any charity, not just donations through Apple.

Links not loading in the 🇨🇦 stores. Hope they get it working worldwide, as every bit counts. My heart goes out to all of you affected by this.

US only, like many services and features.
That’s ridiculous! I have other methods, but with ’s customer base, they can do better and should be moving faster. I remember the Japanese nuclear reactor leak due to tsunami had donations through iTunes, and so have other disasters.

Taylor Swift donates $10 million. Me thinks Apple and other giants can easily donate $100 million out of pocket to go towards relief. And by all means stay away from the Red Cross. Go coordinate with pre-existing ones in Malibu and other locales already used to dealing with large fires to get resources allocated.

lmao at the richest state in the country walking around like a pauper with his hat in his hand.
Perhaps the "richest state in the country" should immediately stop all our tax dollars from flowing like a river to the rest of the country until these communities have been rebuilt and everyone has been made whole. Then we'll see who's a "pauper." /s

See how ridiculous it sounds when you drill down even a tiny bit into your statement? It's a massive tragedy, and it will end up being one of the costliest in history once it's all said and done. People need help, but on the internet some want to laugh at the victims. Read the room.

The Red Cross is a sham org that basically employs ppl making 6 figures instead of using the money to really help people, this is Apple virtue signaling. They're happy to waste your money for you.

6 figures these days isn't the flex you think it is. How much (or little) do you think people who work at these places should earn for a living, taking into account that they also have things like, say, families, bills and a retirement to care about?

I have frist hand experience with them, they're pigs at the trough.

This is apparently fake news. But she often makes donations quietly, never announces them or anything. So I’m sure she’s given something.

Tim....please do not take 30% :)

Those big organizations take even double for their own blown up organization and bureaucracy. But sadly you can't do much more than that from far away.

Sometimes there are small YouTubers or people on other social media that have direct connection to affected people there and deliver 100% of the money you give them. But you have to know them for a while to trust.

I decided to only help in places where I have a direct connection myself. There are always people in the neighborhood who need help and most people don't even know the name of their neighbor but want to save the whole world with such donations to big organizations.

The state isn't asking for help, the individuals whose homes are gone are.

Like in Germany, where the state didn't care and politicians in charge just visited the flood site for propaganda photos.

Those people are still waiting for promised state help and it's now 2.5 years ago I think.

Maybe someone should tell Elon, now that he is so much interested in Europe. ;)
