Kids are neither smart toddlers nor stupid adults, but they can contain both of those things much and more. I don't have much trouble with most of the kids' dialogue, except maybe some of Donny's comic relief. And it's easy to see that as a quirk of the character.
Some kids are really, really smart... But no 9 years old can outsmart a police officer in his profession... That's why I think this show is well made, but good acting and big budgets (compared to Netflix for instance) can't fix a bad story.

Hilde doesn't outsmart them, though I think she certainly could. Hilde doesn't build a case that can be used to convict; she investigates. She breaks rules. She just does what she needs to, trained as a reporter not a cop.

But even though I think she could outsmart them, she doesn't. She outworks them. The police she "work with" fail to put themselves into gear at all. A good work ethic beats the hell out of a shrug, back to work.

I think that America’s general public don‘t like kids, and they like smart kids even less.
Well, the “average” American feels threatened by anyone smarter, especially a kid.

That’s not what she’s doing. She just wants to find the truth. The police wants to hide the truth, that’s what they did from the very beginning.

Funny they didn't film it in actual Selinsgrove. I'm familiar with the town. Not surprising they put it somewhere else.

Apple has made season one of mystery drama "Home Before Dark" available to watch for free on Apple TV+ for a limited time, no subscription required.

The official announcement, delivered on Saturday in a tweet, comes three weeks after the conclusion of the second season.

"Home Before Dark" is a drama series about Hilde Lysiak, a child journalist who published a newspaper called the Orange Street News in her hometown of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.

The series follows the young girl as she moves from Brooklyn to the small lakeside town her father is from, where she unearths a cold case that everyone else in the town had attempted to bury.
In real life, Hilde Lysiak was the first to report on a murder in her town of Selinsgrove, which gave her paper, Orange Street News, national and international media attention. Season 2 premiered on June 11.

Apple TV+‌ is available for a $4.99 per month subscription for the whole family, though Apple offers a free year of service with the purchase of an iPhone, iPad, Mac, iPod touch, or Apple TV.

Please kill off the Dad. His brooding, breathless faux American accent is painful.

I’d say I’d mediocre. Not bad. Not good. Just ok. Inoffensive. Like a hallmark movie. I actually like Hilde altho‘ she sometimes overacts but she’s a child actor. And the writing can be really silly. So I let it go. The dad character is insufferable tho’.

I accidentally watched the last three episodes while my wife had it on, and they weren’t that bad. Disappointed at the ending however, and not motivated at all to watch season 2 to find out what happens because the way these things are written I would bet it will leave hanging for season 3. Let’s get back to making self contained seasons.

The acting is fine (except perhaps for the father). The problem is that the script is similar to Scooby Doo but with more holes. So the nine year old trespasses on private property (without knowing it was private), and the police chief turns up at her home that evening to "give her a ticket". Really? And her dad (an investigative journalist) and mum (a lawyer) just stand by and agree? Really?
