With stay-at-home orders widely in place, Apple has made several of its original Apple TV+ series and movies free for anyone to watch for a limited time (via TVLine).

In the US and many other countries, the content listed below can be streamed for free online via Apple.co/FreeForEveryone or through the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, select Samsung and LG smart TVs, and Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices.

In other words, to view the content, you don't need an Apple subscription - the only requirement is that you sign in with an Apple ID.
  • Dickinson
  • Ghostwriter
  • Helpsters
  • For All Mankind
  • Servant
  • Snoopy in Space
  • The Elephant Queen
The content represents about a third of Apple's TV+ offering, and excludes some of the service's premium shows like "The Morning Show," which remains behind Apple's streaming paywall.

Apple is also currently offering extended trials of several streaming services available within the Apple TV app under Apple TV Channels, including free access to EPIX for the next month.
Apple is still rolling out its "Free for Everyone" offering, so sit tight if you're not able to access it just yet. Meanwhile, if you're keen to check out the full raft of content, Apple still offers a free seven-day trial of Apple TV+, which converts into a $4.99 per month subscription or an annual $49.99 subscription if users continue with the service.

This... is a nice thing for them to do. I'm sure some are at least feeling like they're running out of things to watch, or are casting about for something new and different (and Apple has no reruns, it's all new, original content).

It'll also probably pick them up some new subscribers as some (admittedly small) portion of the people who take a look end up subscribing.

One gem they're holding back from this free offer is Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet.

Anybody knows how long it will be for free? As long as the Corona virus is around? I don't want to be locked in halfway in a series...

This is a win-win. People who have finished what they wanted to watch elsewhere can have something new and Apple can hook some people onto some of the originals so there will be more viewers once the new seasons come out.

I wonder what the viewership was for these shows. I have an Apple TV+ subscription but I didn’t make it past episode 2 of either Dickinson or For All Mankind.

I haven’t tried the other shows yet.

The morning show and Mythic Quest are the two shows that would really get people to subscribe.

Yeah, this two shows are the only two I completed. I really enjoyed Mythic Quest. The Morning Show was good, but not great. Don't know if I would subscribe yearly just for those though. Right now AppleTV + looks like a one month a year to binge type of service for me.

home before dark is really good also

Really surprised by the quite neutral politic tone of the morning show, it was a good surprise, a nice watch

I’m not being pessimistic here, but what’s the point of this? Most users were offered a free trial or where given a year for free if they purchased an Apple device.
Not everyone has purchased a new Apple device recently. I would imagine that there are more Apple users who didn't qualify for a free year than those that did.

ADDED - plus non-Apple users can access it if they have compatible smartTV and/or a newer-ish Roku.

Does Apple HONESTLY believe that people would pay actual money for Apple TV+ in it's current state?

I would. At $5, it's not that pricey. Arguably, $7 for Disney+ is a better deal, but I'm actually not that interested in most of Disney's stuff. (I might be if/when they ever revive the Netflix Marvel shows.)

The first two episodes of 'For All Mankind' are hereby highly recommended!

I feel like you'll know after about 7 minutes if you're into this show. It does take further twists and turns (and add some emotional/personal aspects later on), though.

(I dug it.)

I also enjoyed The Morning Show more than I thought I would.

I haven't finished Little America, but did enjoy several episodes. I'm not much of a sucker for anthologies, though. I want to see character development.

I played a few minutes of Dickinson and it didn't really catch my attention. Maybe later.

lol I already streamed all Apple shows for free. Not sure why anyone would be paying for such mediocrity.
Once everyone's free 1 YR expires, I can't imagine many will pay monthly for one or two new shows each month which may or may not be good. There needs to be MUCH more content each month.

Honestly, For All Mankind, Servant, and Elephant Queen are all really solid shows/film. High production value, great plot (albeit slow for Servant and For All Mankind) and decent acting.

Dare I say I would be willing to pay $5 to watch these. Actually, a fairly good deal! I know I am in the minority here, but other than a few (Amazing Stories, Dickinson) I have been impressed with the quality of ATV+.

(Update on 11/4/20: The full series are available now in the UK.)

In the UK: I've only looked at the first three series listed in the post; but it appears to be just the first two of episodes, for any series, that are free. Anything more and you have to pay. If so, it looks more like a rather dissappointing "bait and hook" offer than an act of altruism by Apple.
