I'm expecting the snarky comments of course but this is a good strategy.
Two things:
1. Apple is confirming what was obvious to anyone paying close attention over the last couple of years: the Apple TV App is the video equivalent of the Apple Music app. Apple's TV shows will live here.
2. Certain shows will be free to get people used to using the TV app. Throw away time killers like Carpool Karaoke are the perfect kind of TV show for this. Celebrities are popular, drawing in viewership, and the show is a fun way to kill 30 minutes. But it's not the kind of TV show you get invested in and would pay money to watch.
I'm expecting Apple to leverage third party content to build up the TV App's usefulness and the subscription's value. All TV and Movies in this one app on AppleTV, iPhone, iPad and Mac. An Apple TV subscription would grant you access to all Apple produced TV shows but also to a stable of movies and third party tv shows. Like music, Apple would pay content owners per view. This would replace renting movies on iTunes.
Fresh content from third parties would live in their respective apps but would be accessible from within the TV app as has been circulated recently. Hopefully Netflix joins in, otherwise they're going to start losing influence when every iOS/tvOS/macOS gives more visibility and ease of use to apps that work from within the TV app.
Rolling down hill to a fire you mean. Did you see the new features Google has presented with their AI?FINALLY. Between this and the new jokes for Siri, Apple has been on a roll lately.
IDK if that were true then Spotify would be second.Apple often does app and content giveaways to reward us loyal and faithful customers. But I would say if you don’t have Apple Music you blew it. There’s nothing quite like Apple Music when it comes to putting all the music in the world at your fingertips - coupled with delightful curation and discovery that will rock your mind.
That’s one view. The other is: Apple does not have a ****ing clue when it comes to original programming.

I can’t wait to not watch it.

Apple is making its "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" television show available for free via the TV app, according to a new trailer the company shared on its YouTube channel this week (via Billboard).
Free episodes of the show will be available through the TV app starting on May 11 at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time, giving those who don't have an Apple Music subscription a chance to watch it.
Right now, "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" is limited to Apple Music subscribers who have subscribed to a free trial or who pay the $9.99 per month fee for the service. Starting later today, the series will be available to watch in the TV app on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV even if you don't have an Apple Music subscription.
Apple plans to release new free episodes of "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" each Friday, so the entire series won't be available at once.
"Carpool Karaoke: The Series" is based on the Carpool Karaoke segment made popular by "The Late Late Show With James Corden." The show pairs up different celebrities, musicians, and athletes, putting them in a car together to sing popular songs.
Apple has released 19 episodes of "Carpool Karaoke" thus far, and the show was approved for a second season back in February.

You mean it’s to target teens in particular as some of the people criticizing here are definitely millennials.[doublepost=1526147970][/doublepost]
You're probably not part of the target audience. It's been tremendously successful, just the Youtube versions alone get millions, some 20Million, of views, that's why they renewed it for a second season, but it's not really meant for the older generation as they probably wouldn't recognize any of the artists that appear, except for Will Smith or don't enjoy the cultural discussions and music.
Sometimes I think this website needs a second sidebar on the front page, for non-tech stuff. As usual the haters are embarrassing themselves. CK is an immensely popular show--just on Youtube alone there are millions of views, and the show is so popular they have renewed it for a second season. LOL.
you want new Siri jokes?
You

LOL. They were charging for this garbage? haha.
Most horrible thing I've ever seen. Watched 30 seconds of it and couldn't take it anymore.Cheaper than lobotomy
Yup!So how about countries without the TV app??
Yup!
There is no Apple TV app in Poland
They don't have to localize it too much. They could just allow it.
Apple's policy is really strange in Apple TV.
I CAN use Siri in English on iPhone in Poland.
and
I CAN'T use Siri in English on Apple TV in Poland.
How come Apple?
I can normally use it on my iPhone, but I cannot enable Siri on Apple TV in Poland...
The problem is that the YouTube version where James Corden handle the whole episode, is much much better than the Apple Music edition. As usual the haters are embarrassing themselves. CK is an immensely popular show--just on Youtube alone there are millions of views, and the show is so popular they have renewed it for a second season. LOL.
I don't get that regional, geopolitical mess.Yeah Siri on the Apple TV is weird, I cannot use it in English with a Dutch account, yet in the Netherlands no titles of movies/shows etc get translated so I can’t use Dutch Siri either as she doesn’t understand English. Still don’t understand why Siri on the Apple TV doesn’t work like on all other devices.

So this only proves one thing - people are more stupid then I ever thought...
