Hello everyone,

For the past month, I had a persistent issue with my Apple Watch Series 8 Stainless steel (running the latest version of WatchOS available).
Basically I cannot use Apple map on it anymore. Whenever I open it, it crashes. I've noticed the same behaviour from the compass app (takes a few seconds more). I thought it was a software issue, but I've reseted my Watch today, and set it up as a "New Watch" (no backup), and the issue remains. It doesn't impact other apps that uses the localisation and compass.
It is an issue that I started to have long time ago, but very occasionally. I can't even say how many times it happened, but I just remember I had it once or twice. But since WatchOS26, and especially the latest updates (no idea if it's linked) it became noticeable. I'm traveling with my bike on a daily basis, and map is essential when I travel somewhere new – but now it's not usable anymore.

I'm planning to go to the Apple Store as soon as I can book an appointment, but beforehand, I would like to know if this issue is known to one of you here? I am scared it could be hardware related as it impacts similar apps, and reseting did not do much – but at the same time, I never crashed or damaged it. I rarely/occasionally swim with it for 30min, but nothing crazy.

I've attached a screen recording of the watch, showing the crash of the two specifics app (Apple map, compass), as well other apps that works fine.

I rarely use those apps and I just launched them on my 2 watches (U2 and S7) both on the latest watchOS and no issues. And I do not recall anyone posting about this particular issue here.
So I am somewhat inclined that there might indeed be a HW related issue so having the watch checked out at Apple would be my suggestion, or, contact them online as they can run the same diagnostics remotely.
