Oh, using one of these routes would be idyllic, I imagine!
Like visiting another planet.
Having just looked at the map, I promise that you will die riding around the eastern side of Taupō (the Singapore-sized caldera lake in the middle of the North Island) unless the road is closed, which happens one day a year in November!

I've been using Apple Maps for regular biking in the city quite a bit the last few months, in The Netherlands. Unfortunately it's not super accurate and will sometimes pick odd routes, navigate you over a pedestrian path or ignore cycling lanes. Will continue using it, since the integration with Apple Watch is much better than Google Maps. Hope they improve with time.
Or Apple could let you set the default maps/navigation app to Google Maps. But then who would use Apple Maps? Not me!

It's Hobbiton to Mount Doom. You'd ride for 19 hours with ringwraiths at your back :p
Been there before lotr, I did not cycle for that long.
My longest distance in a day was in the Northern Territory in Australia, 275 km, with about 30-40 kg on front and rear panniers, took me about 12-13 hours.

Good to see it expand. Still waiting for it to be available in even more regions.

Cycling in maps is so poorly integrated with the wider OS. For example, you can't specify cycling as a check-in transit method and have to default to driving. It doesn't work with the Maps ETA widget. There's a few other oddities, including with Siri as well. Why is it so half-baked?
