Apple Maps today expanded its Detailed City Experience to Boston, as noted by content creator Frank McShan. The updated map provides more details and custom-designed 3D models of popular landmarks, such as Fenway Park.

Apple says the updated map provides richer detail for road markings, buildings, commercial districts, marinas, land cover, trees, elevation, public transit routes, and more. Navigation is also improved with the additions of augmented reality walking directions and a road-level "windshield view" when approaching complex interchanges.

Apple started rolling out the Detailed City Experience with iOS 15 in 2021, and the updated map is now available in the cities of Atlanta, Berlin, Chicago, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Miami, Montréal, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Sydney, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington, and a few others, with more to come.

Earlier this week, we spotlighted a new iPhone app called Landmarks that allows you to easily view over 300 of the 3D models from Apple Maps.

I couldn’t help but notice that the article lists the cities the detailed map is included without mentioning Boston. But this article is about Boston being added presumably now?

Great! Good to see Apple Maps expanding the nicer version of it to another city.
At this rate, by 2075 the coverage may finally reach all the major global cities.
Looking forward to it!

Apple Maps for MacOS sucks with a mouse. For example, click+dragging with the mouse AND swiping a finger on the mouse do the exact same thing. You have to use the keyboard to zoom in, rotate, etc. When you figure out that OPTION+drag rotates the view, it's in the opposite direction would expect.

Still waiting for Apple Maps to reliably label roadnames and route numbers on the map. Can't even tell you the number of times I've zoomed in, zoomed out, panned, changed from "explore" to "drive" and seen absolutely no difference: major roads not showing their names or numbers.

Also, agree with the above post that the MacOS UX is terrible. Plus only allowing two-finger pinch/spread to zoom in and out, instead of two-finger swipe upward/downward, and that pinch/spread invariably also rotates the map.

Apple MAPS is terrible in the UK, major cities have icons where businesses are no longer and roads which no longer exist. Everytime I have to turn to google maps. Also google maps and satellite data was updated February 2023 so everything is pretty much bang on up to date.
