AAA still prints paper state road maps revised usually every other year. And they have large city road maps along with regional over view maps for planning routes. Rand McNally still prints a USA Road Atlas every year.

The beauty of these paper products is that do not need batteries to work. 😳 🙄

If only someone would invent a way of charging a phone while you’re driving.

I say this as someone who can be very skeptical of tech: I do not miss wrangling paper maps when navigating unfamiliar areas. It was do-able if you have someone in the car to play navigator, but I used to spend so much time taking wrong turns, stopping to ask for directions or clarification about what was on a local map. It was... hard.

I do understand the value of building and maintaining the spatial abilities that you have to have for manual navigation, and I also recognize the social value in “going local” and asking people for directions. But man, it is so much easier to get around now.

If we do not use the paper map skill, it seems to slowly fades away in our active memory space as we age (I am 81 and know of what I speak). When the electronics are uncooperative, a hard copy plan B could save the day.

I wouldn’t know who uses flyover, but what they did with it in ios27 is impressive. I just wish more cities, including greater citi areas were covered.
