It's still surprising to me how slowly these are added (on all platforms). Does it take more than a day for one person to walk around a mall (or airport) and enter the data?

You're oversimplifying it. Look at these. They are entire floorplans, with the exact shape of walls, etc. Not as easy as typing data in or registering geocoded coordinates. They need to encode the exact floorplans into the system.

This update is mostly malls, but STILL no SFO? Really, guys? You can probably see the runway from a drone above the Apple campus!

What makes SFO more important than other destinations around the world? Think about that for a moment.

I’m surprised Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport isn’t on the list. It’s the busiest airport in the world and baggage claim is a mess to figure out. You’d think they’d want that mapped as a showcase of the feature.
Literally just flew into Atlanta yesterday and thought what a great airport. No stupid shuttle bus to anything, super fast train takes you everywhere including rental car location. Found out luggage real quick and it arrived to baggage claim when we did. Maybe domestic is better than international?

I fly in domestic but I am used to Denver International which is super easy to get around.

I really like this feature. Super useful if you’re trying to find a certain store in an airport or mall, or if the design just sucks there. I was at Detroit’s airport for the first time a while back and I found it strangely difficult to navigate and this saved my butt.
I used it at JFK and it found me a Shake Shack in a less-obvious location which turned out to have a much shorter line. Anything that gets me their egg and cheese sandwich faster, I'm a fan of.

Amazing work in this article showing how Apple is still way behind Google, especially in regards to places of interest. Apple is adding more detail to its maps but not creating place names so it’s not searchable. Looks like a lot of their POS information is coming from Yelp.

Eddy Cue wasn’t the right guy to lead Siri. I don’t think he’s the right guy to oversee maps either. Tim should move it under the new guy he hired from Google.
Yeah, this was a great deep dive into Maps. The guy seriously did his homework! I really do hope Apple keeps improving Maps with quality data. I like how well it's integrated into Mac and iOS, and I generally have good experiences with it for basic wayfinding -- but Google is still generally way ahead on labels of businesses and other places.

I wonder if they will release Street View for Apple Maps that slow. Perhaps in 2 years they will say "We have street view for Apple Maps coming in iOS 14 for 6 cities at launch."

Why would Apple want to map a mall manually? Are they going to measure each storefront to make sure it gets represented at the correct coordinates? And what happens when a store opens or closes the following month?
