I have a problem with Apple map application - it shows only the grid and not the actual map. On the Apple support site I found the following fix.

    Open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Maps.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Maps.plist file to the Trash
Restart your Mac then try the Maps app.

This works but only for a couple of map access then the same thing happens again.

Anyone know why this is happening and a permanent fix?

    Thanks

the only time I have come across this type of problem was on my iPhone when I was driving beyond cell coverage

have you tried google maps? If the Google is working, then at least it narrows the problem to strictly Apple. I wish I could suggest something better.

Google maps works all the time - this is on MBP not the phone - Don't have a problem with the maps on phones just on MBP

I meant Google maps on the MBP. I only brought up my iPhone experience because it showed grid lines without the maps when I no longer had cell coverage. (I quickly learned how to download maps directly onto my phone after that.) Hopefully someone else will offer better suggestions.

Sounds like connectivity to their server is an issue.

I want to agree with this. I was having the same problem the other day and after reading this thread it reminded me to look further into it. Lo and behold its working fine right now.

Thanks for your help. If it were a connectivity issues why would deleting a plist file fix it. The file is somehow getting corrupted I would think.
