Prior to Google releasing their own Maps app for iOS, I very sparingly used the Apple Maps app. When I did, it usually didn't steer me wrong. A couple months later, I am still using the Apple Maps app exclusively. I still have the Google Maps app installed on my phone, but it is stuck in my "Travel" folder not being used at all. I figured that if Apple Maps failed me, I can always rely on Google. However, in the times that I have used Apple Maps, I have been guided to my destination without any issues. I most recently used it last week to get to a place that was literally in the middle of nowhere. Apple Maps performed flawlessly.

I use the Apple maps for navigation while driving. The interface is much cleaner and the data has been accurate for me so far.

For looking up places and just about everything else I use Google. They just have way more data and details in their maps. You can see locations inside malls and airports and all now.

I haven't opened Apple Maps since Google Maps came out. It's in the "Crap" folder on the last page of my homescreen with Stocks and Passbook. If only I could stick Newsstand in there.

I don't use either for navigation. My car has GPS built in.

So, did anyone tried to look up 1 Infinite Loop on their Google Maps? I don't have an iPhone, but on my SGS3 and on the website, it did show the proper streetview image which is not the image shown in this article. I find this article rather suspect because it showed the image of garbage bins instead of the Apple HQ. I actually tried to move around on the map to find this image, but was unable to.

I think they're both alright. For addresses and navigation I mainly use Apple Maps, if I want to find something that I don't know by address I use Google Maps.

I feel like they go hand and hand with eachother...apple maps for navigation and google maps for poi.

+1 !!!

Apple maps still doesn't know of an enormous gymnastic center next to me. I've reported it 3 times, and still nothing.

Illinois has not been getting as many updates as California.

I prefer the UI of apple maps more and of course the integration. I try to use apple maps but must admit I'm still only confident using them in areas I'm at least somewhat familiar with do to previous inaccuracies experienced. I keep google maps installed as a back up and use it for the times that are critical.

I am still using Apple Maps. I like Google Maps app better but I am running pretty lean on storage space and I just prefer to use Apple as it is more integrated with IOS.

Google will always win in my book until Apple brings native public transportation support, better POI and better traffic data.

I often ask is Apple locking things out due to "security" or their paranoia that we will drop their stock apps for alternative apps that we like better. Lets just drop the hole if you don't like Apple get another phone. Well that's a BS answer and those who say it know it but won't admit it.

Bottom line is I got an iPhone/iPad because I wanted it, but that doesn't mean I should be forced into less quality apps just because Apple and iOS won't let me. They need to loosen their grip and maybe they will realize forcing someone isn't the right way. But hey what do I know I only buy what works for me and if iOS doesn't work for me I will buy something else until it doesn't work for me.

Amen.

These replies are definitely very interesting. It's good to hear both apps seem to be improving, though, like the other poster from Atlanta replied, Apple maps still have some room for improvement down here.

At one point I was using apple maps for while like everyone else I started to have issues with apple maps. On the other hand google maps has been my number one ever since I download the app. Apple maps still have many issues that Needs to be fix. Giving folks wrong directions is not cool at all especially if you are in a rush.

I still use Apple maps because it really hasn't done me wrong yet. I downloaded google maps too but it's not used as often.

Fellow Atlantan here, as well. Apple Maps has been buried in the "Navigation" folder on the second page of my iPhone since October or November. Used Waze for a bit and I do like it; but Google Maps is on my home screen for easiest access because I use it all the time.

Neither.

Apple Maps is dangerous. Google Maps is slow. I don't know why Google Maps is built like an Android app. The app is terrible. Apple Maps will make you look stupid. I was looking for a Walmart, the iPhone told me to go 10 miles down the road, and there was a local in the car who directed us to the Walmart 5 feet away.

I will never use Apple Maps for anything. Apple doesn't even realize just how bad their Maps really is. It's bad!

I'll be using Safari.

When I travel to other cities and need the GPS nav (specifically Seattle, SF, LA & Miami), I've been using Apple Maps and it's never gotten me lost. So I haven't seen a reason to not use it. The turn by turn has been very accurate on my 4S and Siri integration has been awesome when I've had to change course while driving. The traffic rerouting has been pretty great also. Once I thought it was sending me the wrong way but then I realized it was taking me around the traffic so that was nice.

I've used iTrans or Embark in NY for subway info here at home in NYC since before the switch so it wasn't a big deal to me but I do occasionally still use Google Maps for it if I'm not exactly sure where the subway entrance is if I'm in a neighborhood I'm not familiar with.

On my recent trip to Seattle, I did try to use Google Maps but my music wouldn't play if I was using voice nav. Maybe I didn't set it up right but I went back to Apple Maps. I really haven't had the problems others seem to have giving them bad directions or locations. There is for sure room for improvement and bigger cities seem to work better but it works for me so far.

Still gotta use Google Maps in my area. Apple Maps hasn't changed and still includes POI's that have closed (I've reported it a few times).

Google Maps for many reasons. A few highlights include the user-editable map (changes made to OpenStreetMap ages ago haven't been reflected in Apple Maps) and the "avoid tolls" option.

I've been using Apple maps since it was in the beta and have not been misguided once. I've also had great fun using the 3D feature exploring Rome and other cities.

I downloaded Google Maps to have a look but was happier with Apples offering.

I use Apple maps for all my mapping stuff... I simply dunno why Google should do it better.
I rarely need to find a location tho^^

I am very good in my city on my own
